Job Description

Position:
Behavior Interventionist, Student Support RoomLocation:
JFK Elementary School, Winooski School DistrictReports to: School PrincipalPosition OverviewJFK Elementary School is seeking a dedicated Behavior Interventionist to join our Student Support Room (SSR) team. This position involves working directly with students and staff across all grade levels (PK-5) to support and enhance students' social, emotional, and behavioral development. We are looking for someone committed to building strong relationships and fostering a safe, inclusive learning environment for all students. Successful experience working with diverse student populations is preferred but not required.

Support Staff, UnionEssential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement student support plans in collaboration with the Behavior Coach.

Practice and reinforce behavior management and modification plans and proactive strategies for students.

Collaborate with the Behavior Coach, teachers, and staff to discuss behavior management strategies and obtain necessary information for successfully addressing challenging behaviors.

Model effective behavior management strategies for teachers and staff.

Support students and staff both proactively and reactively across all structured and unstructured school settings.

Reinforce classroom and school-wide expectations based on student needs, abilities, and interests.

Participate in re-entry meetings with students and staff as appropriate.

Keep detailed data and documentation on student behaviors and progress using task analysis, behavioral charts, and other measures.

Input, review, and approve behavior data in the SWIS data system, including referrals and behavior data for state reporting.

Prepare monthly student behavior reports.

Participate in weekly behavior/SSR team meetings.

Meet regularly with the principal, school counselors, and other support team personnel.

Serve on school-based teams and faculty meetings when appropriate.

Communicate with families when necessary or initiate liaison communication requests.

Assist with crisis prevention strategies; manage escalated student behaviors using verbal de-escalation and CPI interventions as a last resort.

Help to support Instructional Assistants assigned to students.

Work as a team to complete state reporting requirements (state suspension documentation, 4500 reports).Strive to maintain and improve professional competence by attending workshops, clinics, trainings, and professional development.

Stay current with new state and federal regulations relevant to the position.

Maintain confidentiality in all matters related to students and staff.

Perform other duties as assigned by the School Principal and/or Behavior Coach.

Education:
Bachelor's Degree preferred; Associate's Degree with relevant experience also considered
Certificates/Licenses:
CPI certification training or willingness to be trained
Language Skills:
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Mathematical Skills:
Basic math skills
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Other Skills:
Understanding of child development; basic knowledge of trauma-informed practices and verbal de-escalation techniques
Authorization:
U.S. Citizenship, residency, or a valid work VISA requiredNo prior experience is required
