Job Description

Support Staff - Substance Abuse Position Summary New Beginnings CASA is seeking compassionate, dependable, and experienced individuals to join our team as Support Staff. This position plays a vital role in providing a safe, supportive, and structured environment for clients who are experiencing substance use disorders and mental health challenges. Support Staff members serve as positive role models while monitoring client well-being, promoting recovery, and supporting daily program operations. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping others, demonstrates empathy and professionalism, and is committed to supporting individuals on their journey toward recovery and wellness. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Monitor clients throughout the facility to ensure safety, security, and compliance with program rules and guidelines. Provide emotional support, encouragement, and positive reinforcement to clients in recovery. Observe and document client behaviors, concerns, incidents, and progress. Assist clients with daily living activities and program participation as needed. Conduct routine room checks, facility inspections, and wellness checks. Support crisis intervention efforts and respond appropriately to emergencies. Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation in a timely manner. Communicate effectively with counselors, case managers, nurses, and other treatment team members. Facilitate a welcoming, respectful, and recovery-focused environment. Transport clients or assist with transportation coordination when required. Ensure confidentiality and compliance with all agency policies and applicable regulations. Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
QualificationsRequired:
High school diploma or GED. Experience working with individuals affected by substance abuse, addiction, mental health disorders, or behavioral health challenges. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in crisis situations. Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building supportive relationships. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (if transportation duties are required). Ability to pass background checks and drug screening requirements.
Preferred:
Experience in residential treatment, recovery services, behavioral health, social services, or human services. Certification as a Peer Support Specialist, Behavioral Health Technician, or related credential. CPR and First Aid certification. Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery-oriented practices. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when necessary. Ability to respond quickly during emergencies. Work Environment This position works directly with individuals experiencing substance use disorders, co-occurring mental health conditions, and other behavioral health challenges in a residential or community-based treatment setting. Staff members must maintain a supportive, nonjudgmental, and recovery-focused approach at all times.
