West Covina, CA Job Details Temporary $18 - $20 an hour 1 hour ago Qualifications School experience Teamwork Working with individuals with autism High school diploma or GED Working with students Full Job Description Overview We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Interventionist (BII) to support students with disabilities in a school-based setting . This role involves providing direct behavioral support, implementing IEP-driven interventions, assisting students in accessing the curriculum, and working closely with teachers, school psychologists, and special education teams. The ideal candidate has experience supporting children with disabilities—such as autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavioral needs—within educational environments. This position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' daily functioning, social-emotional skills, and academic participation while working in a collaborative and supportive school community. Duties & Responsibilities Implement behavior intervention strategies based on the student's IEP, Behavior Support Plan (BSP), FBA , and team recommendations. Provide direct, in-class behavior support to help students remain engaged, on task, and safely integrated in the school environment. Support students with disabilities including autism, ADHD, SLD, emotional dysregulation, sensory needs, and behavioral challenges . Track and collect behavioral data (frequency, duration, intervals) to support progress monitoring and treatment planning. Assist the student in developing self-regulation skills , coping strategies, communication skills, and appropriate social behaviors. Use ABA-aligned strategies , positive reinforcement, modeling, prompting, and structured routines to support instructional goals. Maintain consistent communication with teachers, school psychologists, and support staff to report progress and concerns. Respond to behavioral escalations using school-approved crisis prevention and de-escalation strategies (non-physical). Support students during transitions, recess, lunch, and other unstructured times to promote safety and social success. Follow all district policies , maintain student privacy per FERPA , and uphold professional boundaries at all times. Help promote an inclusive, supportive environment that aligns with the student's individual needs and IEP accommodations. Experience & Qualifications Experience working with children in school settings or special education programs strongly preferred. Knowledge of behavior support , ABA principles, prompting hierarchies, reinforcement systems, and data collection. Familiarity with behavioral challenges related to autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, and emotional regulation . Understanding of crisis prevention and de-escalation strategies (e.g., CPI, Pro
ACT, NCI
) is highly desirable. Ability to follow structured routines, behavior plans, and educator/psychologist direction with high consistency. Strong communication skills for working collaboratively with school teams and documenting student progress. Ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with FERPA (student educational records). Experience supporting students with social-emotional needs, sensory needs, or behavioral challenges preferred. Patience, flexibility, compassion, and a commitment to supporting diverse learners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A
high school diploma or the equivalent, and Two years of college (48 units), or An Associate's Degree from an accredited college (or higher), or Preferablly ABA training/ 40-hour RBT training course Pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction At least 1-2 years of related experience, preferably in Special Education.
