Job Summary Under the supervision of a Nurse Leader and the direction of the Registered Nurse, the Multi-Skilled Psychiatric Technician is responsible for performing specific duties that support the care and well-being of psychiatric patients, which includes direct and indirect patient care activities that are essential to providing a safe and efficient care environment. This position performs selected interventions and activities that contribute to providing comprehensive care to patients in accordance with all existing regulatory and hospital standards, policies, and procedures. In addition, along with the care team, this position is responsible for ensuring a positive patient experience. This role performs in a high activity work environment with multiple priorities and necessitates flexibility in scheduling. Job Responsibilities Individual Patient Care responsibilities: Assists the RN and the nursing/treatment care team by performing nursing care measures that contribute to the daily management of patient care. Upholds infection prevention standards. Spend time in the milieu observing and monitoring patients' mental, emotional, and behavioral status to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment by preventing and de-escalating crises. Performs and assists with direct patient care: bathing, grooming, oral / denture care, perineal care, toileting, elimination, feeding, positioning, repositioning and ambulation.Performs interventions including:
specimen collection, Point of Care Testing. Obtains and records vital signs using the electronic medical record. EKG Phlebotomy Adhere to hospital policies, HIPAA regulations, and professional ethical standards. Adhere to hospital policies, HIPAA regulations, and professional ethical standards. Responds to Behavioral Interventions using non-violent crisis intervention skills training. Work collaboratively with nurses, social workers, therapists, and providers in implementing individualized treatment plans. Patient Group and other interactions responsibilities: Management of milieu safety including groups, meals, 15-minute observations, managing visitors, securing belongings. Environment of Care (EOC) rounds. Prepares and assists with facilitating Patient socialization/education groups to patients. Performs clerical functions related to pre-admissions, admissions, discharges and transfers.Precepting and Mentoring:
Orient and mentor new psychiatric technicians and support staff to the unit. Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating best practices and professionalism. Provide feedback and support during the onboarding process to facilitate team integration and competency. Perform other related duties as required.
