The MHT assists clinical staff in maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment, supports daily living activities, monitors patient behavior, and helps patients engage in treatment and recovery goals. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Patient Care & Support Provide direct supervision and interaction with patients in residential, inpatient, or outpatient settings Observe, monitor, and document patient behavior, mood, and participation in treatment Provide emotional support and utilize de-escalation techniques during crisis situations Encourage and model healthy coping skills and positive social interaction Safety & Milieu Management Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment Conduct routine safety checks and patient rounds per policy Monitor for contraband and follow facility search procedures Respond appropriately to medical or psychiatric emergencies Follow infection control, confidentiality (HIPAA), and patient rights standards Treatment Support Assist with group activities, psychoeducational sessions, and recreational therapy Support nurses and therapists with treatment plan implementation Transport or escort patients as required Communicate relevant patient information to the clinical team Documentation Complete timely and accurate progress notes and incident reports Document patient observations, vital signs (if trained), and participation levels Report changes in behavior or condition to nursing/clinical staff immediately Qualifications Education High School Diploma or GED required Associate degree or coursework in psychology, social work, or human services preferred Experience Experience in mental health, substance abuse, or healthcare setting preferred Knowledge of trauma-informed care and recovery principles a plus Certifications (preferred or required per facility) CPR/First Aid CPI, Handle With Care, or other de-escalation training BHT certification where applicable Skills & Competencies Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to remain calm in crisis situations Professional boundaries and ethical judgment Team collaboration Basic computer and documentation skills Understanding of confidentiality and patient rights Physical Requirements Ability to stand/walk for extended periods Ability to assist with patient movement if required May require lifting up to 25 lbs Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations Work Environment Behavioral health or residential treatment setting Shift work including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays Exposure to emotionally challenging situations
Pay:
$17.00 - $20.00 per hour
