Job Summary:
This is a full-time, paid trainee position in which individuals are hired as employees while participating in a structured Behavioral Health Technician Development Program. Trainees will work alongside nursing staff to assist in meeting clients' biopsychosocial, developmental, spiritual, and cultural needs while functioning as an integral part of the treatment team.
Trainee Program & Employment Details:
This position is designed for candidates interested in becoming Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) while gaining hands-on experience in behavioral health. Selected applicants will be hired and paid as employees from the start of the program . Participants will complete a structured training program in partnership with Midwest Career Source while actively working in the role. Continued employment as a Behavioral Health Technician is contingent upon successful completion of the training program. New employee orientation begins May 11, 2026 (1 week) Training through Midwest Career Source begins May 18, 2026 Upon successful completion, employees transition fully into the Behavioral Health Technician role
Functions and Duties:
Provides direct patient care activities as directed by licensed nursing staff in accordance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Assumes responsibility for assigned clients. Communicates client status and any changes in condition to the Charge Nurse in a timely manner. Responds promptly and cooperatively to direction given by licensed staff. Records client information accurately and in a timely manner. Takes and records vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, and capillary blood glucose testing (including quality controls); reports abnormal results immediately. Records clients' food intake, output, and hours of sleep as appropriate. Monitors clients and documents according to risk precaution levels. Maintains a safe environment by continuously monitoring for harmful contraband. Attends required in-services, training sessions, and meetings. Participates in departmental meetings. Adheres to staffing and scheduling policies, including overtime as needed. Follows chain of command to resolve issues or concerns. Maintains an active role in delivering excellent customer service. Precepts and trains other employees as assigned. Performs all other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. No experience required. Certification not required at time of hire. Must obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 6 months of employment. Must obtain and maintain crisis de-escalation certification annually or as required by departmental leadership. Ability to operate standard office equipment.
Physical Demands:
Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (mask, gown, gloves) when required. Requires grasping and reaching with hands and arms. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when assisting clients. Requires bending, stooping, and walking. Must use proper body mechanics to prevent injury.
