Job Summary The position is located at Ascension St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood, IN, and is managed by Lake Behavioral Health. The program serves those aged 65 and older experiencing depression and anxiety associated with life changes. The Psychiatric Technician plays a crucial role in providing a range of patient care services, clerical duties, and administrative support for the Program Director. This position is essential for creating a safe, efficient, and positive environment for patients in the program. The Technician's primary role is to ensure safe and timely transportation to and from the program and assist program staff and patients as needed. From time to time, our patients need assistance with personal hygiene. The right candidate will be able and willing to help them as needed. This role is similar to that of a DSP or STNA/CNA, but does not require certification. This position is part-time/PRN. Initially, the scheduled work day will be Wednesdays and unscheduled PRN to cover staff when needed . Training will be at our sister facility in Winchester, IN, for 1-2 days a week initially. Job Duties and Responsibilities Coordinate patient transportation when necessary and assists in planning daily schedules and routes. Drive and maintain the company vehicle, ensuring proper maintenance, repair, fueling, and cleanliness. Assist patients in and out of the vehicle, ensuring their safety, including operating wheelchair lifts when necessary. Assist patients with personal hygiene when necessary. Assist with patients' nutritional needs and prepares snacks for patients upon request. Assist in group activities as requested by the Therapist or Program Director. Assist the Program Director in event planning and networking with the public to spread awareness of the program. Provide support in emergency situations as directed by the Program Nurse or Designee. Takes vital signs when needed. Training will be provided. Communicate any concerns regarding patients to the Therapist, Nurse, and/or Program Director. Complete daily reports as directed by the Program. Assist with all paperwork requirements from pre-admission through post-discharge. Notify the unit Program Nurse/Program Director immediately if a patient is ill or injured during transport and completes incident reporting if necessary. Conduct facility safety checks to ensure a clean and safe environment. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Nurse/Program Director. Must be able to : Actively support the mission, philosophy, and goals of Lake Behavioral Health and the host hospital. Adhere to work practices consistent with the mission of Lake Behavioral Health, medical staff bylaws, and departmental policies and procedures. Must be able to pass a drug test (no prescribed THC or opioids). A minimum of six months transporting patients is preferred. CPR/First Aid/CPI certification is preferred and required within the first 90 days of employment. Experience with the program's population and in a behavioral health care facility is preferred.
