Job Description

About Us:
At Kansas Renewal Institute, we pride ourselves on providing compassionate, consistent care for those who need it most. As a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF), our mission is to support healing, growth, and hope for the individuals we serve—and that starts with having the right people on the floor, face-to-face, every day. We're a team that shows up with empathy, grit, and a good sense of humor (because sometimes you just have to laugh). If you can stay calm in chaos, give a solid pep talk, and know when to set boundaries with both kindness and firmness—you might be exactly who we're looking for.
The Role:
As a Behavioral Health Technician, you'll be working directly with youth in our residential program, helping to implement therapeutic plans, build trust, and support emotional and behavioral stability. Think of yourself as part mentor, part motivator, part "let's try that coping skill again."
Responsibilities:
Provide daily supervision, support, and positive engagement to residents Assist with the implementation of treatment plans under clinical direction Monitor behaviors and model healthy communication and coping strategies Complete accurate documentation of interventions and observations (yes, paperwork—we know) Support with crisis de-escalation using approved therapeutic techniques Work closely with therapists, nurses, and admin staff (we're all in this together) Occasionally win at Uno or lose gracefully at ping pong—it's in the unofficial job description
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's in psychology, social work, or related field a plus Experience working with youth or in behavioral health is preferred Ability to stay calm under pressure and set consistent, healthy boundaries Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset Willingness to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, or overnights as needed A good sense of humor, a big heart, and a reliable alarm clock
Perks:
Meaningful work where you make a real difference in someone's day (and life) Supportive teammates and leadership who actually care Opportunities for growth, training, and professional development Regular doses of gratitude from a team that notices your effort—even on the tough day Physical Demands The physical demands listed below are a requirement to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit or stand for long periods of time, speak, and listen; use of hands to touch and grasp objects and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to move about the facility. Visual ability to view a tablet screen is required. Ability to respond to or manage physical or behavioral crises with residents Work schedule includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational needs. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
