POSITION SUMMARY
The Technician provides oversight and supervision of the Social Detox and Residential treatment individuals completing admission, orientation and general guidance. Reporting to the Manager of Recovery for Astra Recovery Services (ARS) this position ensures high-quality, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive service delivery consistent with the mission and standards of Astra Mental Health and Recovery, a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). The Technician possesses strong organizational skills, creative thinking, prompt follow-through skills, with the flexibility to move between tasks. The Technician must have compassion for persons' in recovery, supporting Astra's commitment to Access, Comprehensive Care, Excellent Outcomes, and Sustainability.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Complete the required admission packet for individuals admitting to Social Detox or Residential treatment in the electronic health record (EHR). Ensure defined housekeeping duties are completed by individuals as outlined in ARS Person Served Guidelines. Ensure supervision of individuals in Detox and Residential by personally observing them and completing headcount sheets, followed by entry into the EHR. Complete daily shift notes of individual's presence and activities while on the unit in the EHR. Staff incomplete records in the shift change report. Ensure that whenever possible a member of staff remains in the Technician office to respond to incoming calls on the 24-hour telephone line and take appropriate action as necessary. Consult with the counselor on call (COC), Recovery Manager or Director regarding specific individual issues to appropriately respond to the person served needs. Follow policy and complete Incident Reports as indicated. In addition to the COC, the Recovery Manager or Director in their absence shall be notified when issues arise concerning criminal activity, damage to Astra Recovery Services facilities, medication counts off, potential ethical violations or any uncertain situation. Coordinate with assigned counselors if individuals are not adhering to their guidelines and treatment requirements and suggest any alternatives or recommendations for individual compliance. Assist counselors and other ARS staff with recommendations for individuals' treatment plans ensuring sure their treatment needs are appropriately met. Participate in shift change activities including completion of the shift change report, review of the on-going log, medication key transfer and all other activities to ensure ongoing communication between shifts. Assist as needed with food preparation or serving to include supervising food preparation by clients, as well as the kitchen clean-up activities. Ensure bed linens and other laundry is washed, dried and put away. Abide by all Astra Mental Health and Recovery policies and procedures, professional ethical standards, as well as all policies and procedures outlined in the Technician Manual. Monitor vacation and sick leave and make every effort to work shifts as assigned. In the event sick leave must be used, notify the appropriate staff at least two hours before the shift. All mandatory training must be completed prior to any expiration dates. These include CPR/First Aid, TB, and general annual required training. Coordinate with community partners through written and verbal communication regarding unmet person served needs to include medication refills, appointment rescheduling, etc. including the assigned counselor in any updates. Help person served to develop a network for information and support. Other Duties Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competence. Approach interactions with individuals served and colleagues with a trauma sensitive lens. Support and actively promote the vision and mission of the agency and the philosophy of the strengths perspective. Other duties as assigned, as qualified and trained for.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Licensure:
High School diploma or GED. Must be at least 21 years of age or older. Must successfully pass Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI), Central Registry, and all required background checks. Valid Kansas driver's license, good driving record, current auto insurance, and reliable transportation required.
Experience:
Experience working with substance use disorder individuals preferred. Must be free from abuse of alcohol and other drugs for a minimum period of two years. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge Computer and data entry. Verbal de-escalation practices. How to communicate with difficult populations. Skills Strong organizational skills. Creative thinker with prompt follow-through skills. Detail oriented with proven flexibility to move between tasks. Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and data monitoring. Abilities Model Astra's trauma-informed and person-centered values. Build trust and maintain collaborative relationships within the team, agency and community partners. Demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Other Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods. Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for communication and supervision. Occasional lifting of materials (up to 50 lbs). Tolerance for active, occasionally high-stress environments typical of substance use disorders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates within Astra Recovery Services. It is fast paced requiring adaptability. This position requires travel transporting individuals served to outside meetings, appointments and other needs. Overnight shifts are often slower paced.
