Job Description

Hope Hill Youth Services McCarty House Mental Health Technician Pay:
$16.00 - $20.00 per hour Hope Hill Youth Services is a local nonprofit behavioral health organization dedicated to providing shelter and treatment to youth who are displaced in the foster care system. Our goal is to create a home-like atmosphere where youth can thrive. We are currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Technician to provide direct support to youth experiencing behavioral health challenges. This role is not for the faint-hearted; the ideal candidate must be prepared to work with troubled youth facing complex challenges while establishing healthy boundaries, fostering acceptance, celebrating diversity, and offering emotional support to those in need.
Position Summary:
Under the guidance of the Executive and Program Director, the Mental Health Technician will deliver direct care and support the creation of a safe and therapeutic environment. Key responsibilities include monitoring youth behavior, assisting with daily living activities, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures. Proficiency in de-escalation techniques is essential, as physical restraints are prohibited.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Patient Care:
Assist patients with performing activities of daily living. Provide or assist with direct patient care as needed. Interact with a variety of professionals and treatment teams to implement treatment plan interventions and report pertinent data.
Observation and Monitoring:
Observe and record behaviors and activities, reporting any changes in physical, mental, or emotional conditions to clinical staff. Suggest modifications to the treatment plan based on observations and patient interactions. Conduct routine checks - eyes on every 15 minutes
Crisis Intervention and Safety:
Provide crisis intervention and milieu management to maintain patient and staff safety. Continuously monitor the environment for potential safety risks and unsafe conditions. 2
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain and update medical records accurately. Provide verbal and written reports to clinical staff to prioritize patient care. Prepare documentation that gives comprehensive insight into youth' responses and functioning.
Collaboration and Support:
Coordinate care within a multidisciplinary team framework. Interact effectively with families, fictive kin, and other social service representatives.
Professional Development:
Assume personal responsibility for maintaining professional development and practice. Adhere to organizational and department-specific safety standards and guidelines.
Additional Responsibilities:
Demonstrate a commitment to service and organizational values through appropriate conduct and demeanor at all times. Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive data diligently. Exemplify exceptional customer service by interacting effectively with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff, and the broader healthcare community.
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent required (Proof Must Be Provided) Must be at least 21 years old. Current CPR and First Aid certification. Minimum of 2 years of direct care experience in a behavioral health or related environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Experience in mental health, chemical dependency and/or substance abuse treatment. Experience with medication assistance. Prior experience or a desire to gain experience in the mental health field. 3
