St. Paul, Minnesota Position Summary The Recovery Safety Technician is responsible for maintaining a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for clients participating in substance use disorder treatment and recovery services. This position combines facility safety monitoring, client transportation, relationship building, and recovery support to help clients remain engaged in treatment and successfully progress toward their recovery goals. The Recovery Safety Technician serves as a trusted support person who builds rapport with clients through positive interactions, encouragement, and accountability while ensuring the treatment environment remains secure, organized, and conducive to healing. This role is ideal for someone who is compassionate, dependable, observant, and passionate about helping individuals rebuild their lives. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Facility Safety & Security Monitor the treatment facility to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all clients, staff, and visitors. Conduct routine facility walkthroughs and safety inspections. Observe and report unusual behavior, safety hazards, or policy violations. Monitor entrances, common areas, and program activities. Respond appropriately to crises, emergencies, or incidents. Assist with de-escalation of conflicts and disruptive situations. Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times. Client Transportation Some client appointment transportation Assist clients in arriving on time for scheduled appointments. Client Relationship & Rapport Building Build positive, respectful, and trusting relationships with clients. Serve as a consistent and supportive presence throughout a client's recovery journey. Engage clients in conversation and encourage participation in treatment activities. Encourage accountability and healthy decision-making. Provide encouragement, motivation, and emotional support. Help clients navigate daily challenges and barriers to recovery. Recovery Support Support treatment staff in maintaining client engagement. Encourage attendance at group sessions, recovery meetings, and scheduled appointments. Reinforce treatment goals and recovery plans. Observe and report changes in client behavior or emotional well-being to clinical staff. Administrative Responsibilities Complete incident reports, transportation logs, and daily activity notes. Document safety concerns and interventions. Participate in team meetings and trainings. Assist with facility organization and daily operations. Follow all
HIPAA, 42 CFR
Part 2, and agency confidentiality policies. Qualifications Required High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of one year sober and experience in behavioral health, recovery services, social services, security, corrections, human services, or a related field. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to pass state background studies. Basic computer and documentation skills. Preferred Born Male Experience working with individuals in substance use recovery. Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS). Experience in behavioral health or residential treatment settings. CPR and First Aid certification. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Strong relationship-building and rapport-building abilities. Ability to remain calm during stressful situations. Strong observational and situational awareness skills. Ability to de-escalate conflict professionally. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to establish healthy professional boundaries. Physical Requirements Ability to walk and stand for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to assist in emergency situations. Ability to drive clients throughout the Twin Cities metropolitan area.
