Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager. The Behavioral Health Technician is responsible for the direct services in the day-to-day care guidance and instruction for residents placed in the home, providing a safe, structured environment.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- HSE/HS Diploma plus one (1) year of experience working with youth and social problems (18 credit hours in the social sciences may be substituted for the required experience).
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must be able to read, write, understand & speak English.
- Considerable knowledge of the basic needs of youth, crisis intervention/behavior management techniques, and the principles and practices of youth supervision.
- Ability to exhibit emotional maturity and good judgment, including high standards of morals and speech.
- A broad knowledge of community problems and/or areas of concern involving the youth in the community.
- Extensive knowledge of community resources and ability to work efficiently with public and private agency professionals.
- Must be able to establish an effective rapport in all dealings with the program's clientele.
- Must be dependable and flexible about working hours.
- Previous experience with youth who have experienced trauma to include family violence, community violence, or sexual assault.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
(Not Inclusive):- Provide direct one-on-one trauma-informed intervention services to clients at the program.
- Behavioral Health Tech will be responsible for intake services involving new clientele accepted to the program during their shift.
- Offer support and crisis intervention services to clientele.
- Will assist/monitor clients in managing the day-to-day programming for program youth.
- Will assist in developing and maintaining a recreation program for clients.
- Will maintain daily documentation in files/records using the EMR Bear system.
- Will assist in meal preparation following the posted daily menu.
- Will transport program youth during intake, outings, activities and scheduled appointments.
- Will participate in weekly staff meetings.
- Must adhere to the Trauma Responsive Care and Services Training Requirements attending required training as scheduled.
- Ensure the confidentiality of the undisclosed location of the facility.
- Support and implement the program philosophy of trauma-responsive practices of care.
- Will rotate on-call procedures to ensure staff-to-client ratio.
- Shifts are subject to change due to program needs, and staff are required to cover shifts if needed when they are scheduled on-call.
- Maintain a neat, organized, and clean work environment.
- To adhere to the agency Program Policies and Procedures Manual, Program Operations Manual, handbooks, and Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB CHARACTERISTICS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is a professional position which requires organizational and communication skills, as well as judgment, tact and diplomacy in contacts with Youth Development, Inc. employees, community residents, parents and local government agencies. Strict adherence is required to all regulations concerning confidentiality. Project management experience preferred. Good general health. Physical will be required at time of hire. Background investigation to include fingerprinting will be required. Frequent travel is required. Valid driver's license and proof of satisfactory car insurance are required. Must be able to perform essential job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. Youth Development, Inc. is an at-will employer.
