Job Description

Recovery Technician (RT), Armada Detox of Akron Starting pay: $20/hour | Full-time and part-time | Day, evening, and overnight shifts The short version Armada Recovery is hiring Recovery Technicians for our Akron detox unit. This is the person who sits with someone at 3 a.m. when they are sick, scared, and one bad minute from walking out the door, and gives them a reason to stay one more hour. It is some of the hardest work in the building, and some of the most important. If that sounds like work you could be proud of, keep reading. What a Recovery Technician actually does You are the constant presence on the unit. On any given shift you will: Conduct safety and observation rounds and document them accurately and on time Support clients through the physical and emotional reality of withdrawal, with patience and without judgment De-escalate tense moments and keep the unit calm, safe, and structured Communicate clearly with nursing about anything you see, because you see things first Assist with intakes, belongings searches, and getting new clients settled Hold the daily structure: meals, meds reminders, activities, lights out Keep the environment clean, orderly, and safe Model what recovery and basic human respect look like, every shift, even when a client is at their worst Who we are looking for The credentials matter less than the person. We are looking for someone who is: Reliable. You show up, on time, every scheduled shift. This is the single most important thing. Calm under pressure. When a client is escalating, you get steadier, not louder. Compassionate but firm. You can hold a boundary and treat someone with dignity at the same time. Observant. You notice the small changes that tell you something is wrong before it becomes an emergency. A communicator. You tell the nurse what you saw. You do not sit on it. A team player. The shift runs on people covering each other, not on people doing the minimum. What you need (minimum requirements) 18 years or older High school diploma or GED Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen Reliable transportation to and from the facility Physical ability to stand and walk for a full shift and assist clients as needed Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis (detox runs 24/7) Helpful, but we will train the right person Prior experience as a tech (RT, BHT, PCT, CNA) in detox, residential, behavioral health, or healthcare CPR and First Aid certification (we will help you get it) De-escalation or crisis intervention training Lived experience with recovery. We value it. If you are in recovery yourself, we generally ask for a sustained period of sobriety first, so let's talk. Schedule We are a 24/7 facility. Day, evening, and overnight (NOC) shifts are available, [8 hour options]. Full-time and part-time both available. Tell us what you can realistically commit to, and we will be straight with you about what we have open. Pay and benefits $20/hour to start Health, dental, and vision benefits for full-time staff Paid time off Paid training Real advancement. A meaningful number of our nurses, shift leads, and supervisors started exactly where you would: on the floor, as an RT. We promote from within because the people who learn this unit from the inside become our best leaders.
The honest part:
who this job is not for This work is hard, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Detox is messy, emotional, and unpredictable. Clients will be angry, sick, and sometimes ungrateful in the moment, because that is what early recovery looks like. If you are looking for a quiet job where you can stay on your phone, this is not it. If you cannot show up reliably, this is not it. But if you want work that actually matters, where what you do is seen, and where you go home knowing you helped another human being through the worst days of their life, we should talk. Why Armada We are a Joint Commission accredited treatment provider, and our mission is simple: give people hope and a safe place to get well until they are strong enough to find that strength within themselves. We are also building something on the staffing side that you do not find everywhere: a culture where the people doing the hard work get recognized for it, not just corrected. Leadership is on the floor. The work gets noticed. That is a promise we are actively keeping, not a line on a poster.
