Job Description

Position Summary:
Promotes individual and population public health by conducting sampling, monitoring, making observations, conducting surveys and other activities as assigned. Program content areas may include food protection, institutions, recreation, rabies control, air pollution, radiation, wastewater, stormwater, vector control, and solid waste.
Essential Duties:
Collect, prepare and transport samples; sampling would be of household septic treatment systems and also possible lab work; Make observations and collect data; Investigate program nuisance complaints; Operate and calibrate equipment and meters; Communicate with the regulated community, public, other agencies and co-workers; Conduct informational surveys; Perform data entry; Participates in quality improvement activities. This position may be at risk for limited occupational exposure to blood borne or communicable disease. Additional exposures may include but are not limited to: radiation, asbestos, mold, tobacco smoke, rabies, chemical substances, pesticides and unidentified odors.
Other Duties & Responsibilities:
All health district employees have an emergency response role and may be expected to respond to threats to the public's health in accordance with Geauga Public Health Response Plan; Performs other duties as assigned consistent with position.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School graduate or equivalent with basic knowledge of science being a plus; Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations; Ability to define problems, collect data and make observations; Ability to work independently or as a team; Adaptable to different circumstances; Must have and maintain a valid State of Ohio driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
