Job Description

DEDICATED TO STRENGTHENING THE HEALTH, SAFETY, AND INDEPENDENCE OF IDAHOANS
State Hospital South (SHS) - Syringa Chalet Nursing Facility is seeking a temporary part time Psychiatric Technician Trainee/ Activities with a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) who is caring and has a passion for helping others. SHS is in beautiful Southeast Idaho, an area best known for Oregon Trail and Native American history, amazing fly fishing, towering mountain peaks with abundant wildlife and awe-inspiring geological sites. State Hospital South in Blackfoot provides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for Idaho's adult citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living. State Hospital South includes 110 psychiatric adult beds and 42 skilled nursing beds. It also maintains a statewide program to restore the competency of criminal justice patients. The 42 skilled nursing beds in the Syringa Chalet Nursing Facility offer services to consumers with a history of behavioral or psychiatric illness. This position is not eligible for telework. The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. Any applicant offered employment in this position, will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test. In addition, the applicant will be required to complete and pass a criminal history background investigation after a conditional offer of employment. Temporary positions are limited to working 1,385 hours in a 12-month period for any one state agency. Employees are eligible for benefits if they work twenty (20) hours or more per week and the term of employment is expected to exceed five (5) continuous months. This is an ongoing announcement which means at the time applicants apply, we may or may not have an opening. Those applicants that take and pass the exam to show they meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the referral list. When a position becomes available, the hiring supervisor will then directly contact those applicants they wish to interview off the referral list.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
PHYSICAL
NURSING CARE
Monitor residents' safety and security within the environment, both mentally and physically. Provide initial Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid in emergency after completion of education modules. Provide and promote skills development for physical care through utilization of Certified Nurse's Aide (CNA) training.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT
Supervise residents who are assigned by treatment programs to perform housekeeping activities. Be alert to, and take measures to prevent, all safety hazards.
RECORDKEEPING
Observe, record, and objectively report residents' socialization patterns and participation levels in activities. Maintain summary record for transmitting information to other staff. ESCORT Provide security and supervision of escorted residents, both on and off the campus, to meals, clinic appointments, activities and activity outings. Observe and report residents' physical conditions, activities, and behaviors while being escorted. Conduct count of residents and record before, during, and after escort.
PSYCHOSOCIAL
Utilize intervention strategies outlined in residents' individual treatment plans. Institute on-demand treatment decisions in crisis situations, including problem-resolution; one-to-one therapy; stress management; treatment plan utilization; treatment contracting; offered behavioral alternatives; therapeutic privacy; and precaution actions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
You must possess all the minimum and specialty minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum and specialty qualifications for this position. It is highly recommended to attach a one-page cover letter to your application to demonstrate how you meet the requirements below. Some knowledge of personal hygiene and first aid. Typically gained by at least two months experience performing these functions OR a willingness to learn. At least six months of experience following written and oral instructions. Ability to read and write in English.
