The Part-Time Instructor for the Mental Health Technician (MHT) Course will plan, deliver, and evaluate instruction for an entry-level behavioral health workforce training program. The instructor brings subject-matter expertise in psychiatric rehabilitation, crisis intervention, and community-based mental health services to prepare students for roles as mental health technicians in clinical, residential, and community settings. This position reports to the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Department and works collaboratively with program staff to ensure high-quality instructional outcomes and student success.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Instruction & Curriculum Delivery Deliver engaging, competency-based instruction for the Mental Health Technician course, covering topics such as psychiatric disabilities, medication management, de-escalation, documentation, and trauma-informed care. Develop and update lesson plans, course materials, and assessments aligned with behavioral health workforce standards and employer expectations. Facilitate in-person and/or hybrid learning sessions, adapting instructional strategies to meet diverse adult learner needs. Integrate real-world case studies, role-play scenarios, and skills demonstrations into course content. Student Support & Assessment Monitor student progress and provide timely, constructive feedback on assignments, skills demonstrations, and participation. Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance in Xendirect and in coordination with program staff. Identify students in need of additional support and connect them with program resources or academic advising. Program Collaboration Participate in program orientations, meetings, and professional development sessions as needed Assist with program reporting by providing instructional data and student outcome information as requested. Perform related instructional duties as assigned.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field — OR equivalent professional experience in behavioral health. Minimum 3 years of direct experience working in a mental health, psychiatric, or behavioral health setting. Knowledge of entry-level mental health technician competencies, including psychiatric rehabilitation principles, safety protocols, and documentation practices. Strong interpersonal, communication, and classroom facilitation skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse adult learners, including those with lived experience of mental health challenges.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a behavioral health-related field. Prior teaching, training, or workforce development experience, particularly in a community college or adult education setting. Relevant credentials such as CMHT, CASAC, CPST, Peer Specialist Certification, or similar licensure. Familiarity with trauma-informed pedagogy, motivational interviewing, or recovery-oriented practice frameworks.COMPENSATION & TERMS
Part-time, per-session instructional position. Compensation commensurate with qualifications and program pay scale. Grant-funded; continuation contingent upon funding availability and program enrollment. Schedule varies based on course offerings; evening and/or weekend classes are required for this role.Job Type:
