Job Description
Overview A Birth Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting expectant mothers and the midwife during delivery and postpartum. They work alongside the midwives to create the labor, birth and postpartum team to ensure a safe and empowering birth experience for those delivering at FBC . Key Responsibilities Equipment set-up Know location, function and accessibility of all equipment needed for delivery Charting Chart birth and postpartum entries through the FBC EMR Maternity Neighborhood Patient & Newborn care Perform assessment of vital signs on mother and baby, implement comfort measures and provide patient education.
Offering assistance in managing adverse events and/or clinical interventions under direction of midwifeComplete digital birth certificate and obtain parent signaturesGive patient discharge instructions/education and obtain signaturesClean/sanitize birth suite and basic cleaning of common areas used during birth/postpartumContact postpartum nurse for initial 24-72 hour postpartum home visitHave a minimum availability of 6 days per month of on-call time (preferably every other weekend and 1-2 weekdays) Qualifications Assisting midwife Completion of birth certificate Discharge Birth Suite/Center clean-up Arrange patient postpartum home visit Schedule Training in basic medical care : Basic knowledge of medical care (assessment of mother/baby vital signs, IM injections, overall ambulatory care). Job training will be provided.
NRP & CPR
Certification:
Current certification for NRP & CPR or plan for certification.
Strong Communication Skills :
Ability to communicate effectively and positively with the birthing mother, family, and healthcare team.
Empathy and Compassion :
A caring and supportive demeanor to provide comfort during labor and postpartum.
Knowledge of Childbirth :
Basic understanding of the stages of labor, labor/birth techniques, breastfeeding and postpartum recovery. Training in this area can be provided. Attention to

Ability to complete tasks with detailed oriented approach. Work Environment Birth Assistants are an integral part of the birth team at FBC and is key. We put a strong emphasis on teamwork and keeping a positive work environment. Compensation $20 per on-call day $300 per birth $30 per hour after 8 hours
