Summary of Job Responsibilities:
The position requires the Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to provide primary care services to patients at Neighborhood Medical Center, Inc (NMC). This classification provides comprehensive health care to a diverse population of patients in a primary care setting. Within the individual specialty, the Certified Nurse Midwife is responsible and accountable for managing midwifery health services. This includes prenatal, birth and postpartum care ; education, consultation, and referrals as appropriate; evaluating efficacy of treatment; and serving as an advocate for the patient. The CNM is limited to providing service in the area of specialization for which he/she has been certified and for which competency has been maintained. The CNM must be committed to the midwifery philosophy, families, and the childbirth process.
Qualifications and Experience:
Licensure as a Certified Nurse Midwife Licensed to practice Midwifery in the State of Florida Computer skills Medical charting knowledge and skills Previous experience in maternal and fetal health preferred. Must clear a Level 2 Background Check. Must be professionally credentialed. Team-oriented with good interpersonal communication skills. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred. Ability to function independently. Ability to work flexible hours.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Obtain and document patient health history.
  • Examine, diagnose, treat and advise patients on common maternal issues.
  • Order laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic studies as necessary for patient care.
  • Develops treatment plans and manage patient health problems according to Clinical practice guidelines and standards.
  • Proficiency in newborn assessments and medical charts of patients and newborns.
  • Birth Center pre and post-delivery operations (sterilization, supply management, cleaning, redressing birthing suites, etc.)
  • Skilled at IV placement and suturing.
  • Establish relationships with a diverse population of patients, including low-income population groups and special-needs groups such as sexually abused children, incarcerated persons, etc.
  • Make appropriate referrals to specialists and other caregivers. Coordinate health care with other specialty providers.
  • Consult with supervising physician regarding patients with abnormal or unusual medical conditions.
  • Provide emergency treatment as needed.
  • Provide appropriate information and education to patient and family member regarding diagnoses, treatment, prevention, safety, etc.
  • Provide after-hours call coverage as scheduled.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain medical records according to established protocols.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
