The University of Miami UHealth Department of Cancer Support Services has an exciting opportunity for Music Therapist in Miami. The incumbent engages with adult and pediatric oncology patients, individually or in groups, through therapeutic music activities. The Music Therapist also utilizes musical remedies to treat those suffering from a variety of issues.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Assesses client functioning levels, strengths, and areas of need in terms of perceptual, sensory, affective, communicative, musical or other abilities. Establishes client goals or objectives for music therapy treatment, considering client needs, capabilities, and interests. Analyzes or synthesizes client data to draw conclusions or make recommendations for therapy. Gathers diagnostic data from various sources, such as case documentation, observations of clients, and interviews of clients or family members. Designs music therapy experiences to meet clients' goals or objectives. Adapts existing, or creates new music therapy assessment instruments and procedures, to meet an individual client's needs. Plans music therapy sessions to achieve appropriate transitions, pacing, sequencing, energy level, and intensity, in accordance with treatment plans. Customizes treatment programs for specific client populations (i.e. hospice, psychiatric or obstetric populations). Confers with professionals on client's treatment team to develop, coordinate, or integrate treatment plans. Reviews research or literature in music therapy or related disciplines. Analyzes data to determine the effectiveness of specific treatments or therapy approaches. Selects or adapts musical instruments and equipment and non-musical materials to meet treatment objectives. Assesses the risks and benefits of treatment termination for clients. Conducts or assists in the conduction of music therapy research. Identifies and responds to emergency physical or mental health situations. Writes treatment plans, case summaries, and progress reports related to individual clients or groups. Supervises staff, volunteers, practicum students, and interns engaged in music therapy activities. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in relevant field
Certification and Licensing:
Certification in relevant specialty or field
