  • $56,800 base salary + $2,000
Relocation Bonus Location:

  • All applicants MUST be graduates of an accredited U.S. Music Therapy college degree program (Bachelors or Masters level), with eligibility to sit for the board-certification exam (MT-BC) at time of hire.

Founded in 2013 by three music therapists, Spectrum employs a diverse team of dynamic arts and administrative professionals, and is committed to being a workplace that fosters creativity and passion. Our schools division is in an exciting period of growth, serving over 12 school districts in the surrounding towns and counties. Operated and managed by a practicing school-based music therapist, we are looking for a Full-Time, School-Based Music Therapist for a July or August 2026 start to work exclusively on our growing school-based team of 6! Candidates must have obtained their MT-BC credential or be eligible to sit for the Board Certification Exam by the time of hire.
Position Description:
The Full-Time School-Based Music Therapist may provide IEP (individual, small group, and consultation) and curriculum group services to students in Early Intervention Preschool through grade 12 (ages 3-22) special education programs in contracted early intervention centers and public school districts throughout the Greater Rochester area. School-based services are scheduled Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM
  • 3:30 PM.
This position requires travel to-and-from school buildings. This is a salaried, year-round (12-month) position, with co-led session opportunities with Spectrum teammates during the Summer term. Client contact hours range from 16-19 hours per week, and are a combination of IEP and non-IEP services. Recent grads are encouraged to apply!
Compensation:
$45,800
  • $56,800 base salary + $2,000 Relocation Bonus.
Previous experience, level of education, client contact hours, and additional certifications that relate to the position description are considered when determining salary. Pay is evaluated bi-annually. Responsibilities of the K-12 School-Based Music Therapist include (but are not limited to): Providing IEP (individual, group, and consultation) and curriculum-based services in schools Identifying, creating, and monitoring relevant IEP goals and objectives Completing weekly documentation, quarterly progress notes, annual review reports, and re-evaluation reports Scheduling and conducting intake evaluations for students referred for music therapy Collaborating with interdisciplinary team to address IEP (Individualized Education Plan) goals Attending district team meetings and Committee on Special Education (CSE) meetings Collaboration with school team colleagues to support personal and team growth and learning Utilizing clinical approaches that appropriately and effectively meet each student's needs Exercising therapeutically effective and supportive session facilitation strategies Documenting and submitting weekly attendance, driving, and mileage information Assisting with familiarizing community establishments with Spectrum Attending weekly team meetings and 1:1 supervision with team mentor Full-Time Employee Benefits and Resources include (but are not limited to): Health and Dental Insurance Retirement IRA with company matching Company-paid personal phone plan Company-paid AAA membership Company-paid CBMT dues Budget for Professional Development Bonus pay opportunities for evaluations and consultation End-of-school-year Bonus pay Mileage compensation 80 hours of combined PTO and Sick Time Paid school calendar breaks (approx. 6 weeks) School day hours (no evenings or weekends) Co-teaching Summer model with flexible scheduling Dedicated company iPad with AAC programs and accessories Access to our clinic's fully-stocked instrument, materials, and resource rooms Company-paid Music Therapy resource memberships Dedicated instruments and travel equipment for use with your student caseload Technology platforms for managing scheduling and team communication Ongoing Team Collaboration in the form of: Weekly 1:1 or small group supervision with a fellow school-based music therapist Weekly team meetings with school-based music therapy team Quarterly professional development workshops/special topic events
Required Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited U.S. Music Therapy college degree program (Bachelors or Masters level), with eligibility to sit for the board-certification exam (MT-BC) at time of hire Previous experience working in the school settings is preferred, not required Experience with songwriting and original intervention development preferred Valid driver's license with access to a reliable vehicle Compassionate, flexible, friendly, and team-oriented outlook when working with students and colleagues Interest in engaging in professional growth opportunities as an individual and teammate Flexibility with using shared spaces in school buildings, and traveling to-and-from multiple school buildings daily and weekly Excellent musical skills in: Voice, guitar, percussion, and songwriting Experience working with school-aged children and young adults with a variety of neurodiverse diagnoses (developmental disabilities, ASD, ADHD, communication disorders, and more) Effective time management skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines Ability to work autonomously within a supportive environment Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resumé to the attention of Noa Ferguson (she/her), Owner & Director of PreK-12 School Services, at noa@spectrumcreativearts.org.
