May lead/supervise lower-level employees as assigned.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients to detect or treat diseases. Uses gamma cameras to generate nuclear medicine images. Performs computer post-processing of medical images. Uses radiation detecting probes to assess radiopharmaceutical distribution in patients. Adheres to safety standards that minimize radiation exposures to patients and co-workers. Explain exam procedures and safety precautions to patients. Describes exam duration and sets patient expectations for the examination. Demonstrates exemplary customer service skills and provides reassurances to place the patient at ease. Performs general patient care procedures. Performs calibration and quality control checks on nuclear medicine equipment. Prepares, assays radiopharmaceuticals, and administers to patients. Receives and releases radioactive packages and materials. Measures and records radiation levels of packages and radiopharmaceuticals received, Opens radioactive packages. Appropriately disposes and stores radiopharmaceuticals and radioactive materials, follows radiation safety procedures and NRC safety requirements. Instruct students, residents, fellows, and other staff. Assists with onboarding and training of other staff members. Orders supplies. Participates in research projects. Attend departmental meetings, completes required in-services/competencies and attends regional and national conferences. Keep abreast of the frequent advances, innovations, and developments in the field. Performs other related duties as requiredMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY
Knowledge of the nuclear medicine diagnostic, therapeutic and quality control procedures: Knowledge of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission [NRC] regulations. Analytical skills to be able to calculate accurate dosages. Interpersonal skills to interact with patients and elicit patient's corporation. Effective communication skills [written and oral]. Ability to utilize computer and computer systems to process, retrieve and enter information. Ability to reassure and calm patients who are under physical and emotional stress. Detail oriented with the ability to follow exact instructions by the supervising physician. Ability to maintain an efficient departmental schedule.EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GENERAL EXPERIENCE
Current certification in good standing as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist [CNMT] with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board [NMTCB] OR Current Registered Technologist, Nuclear Medicine Technology [R.T. (N) (ARRT)] with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist American Heart Association (AHA) BLS (CPR/AED) Certification or formal training Other CPR/AED credentials may be accepted at hire, but incumbents will be required to obtain American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within six (6) months of hire and maintain during employmentWORKING CONDITIONS
Long periods of standing. Ability to carry lead shielding devices or Geiger Counters. Assists with patient lifting and ability to position patients. Need to use safety devices, such shielding devices, gloves, or radiation badges. May be exposed to infectious diseases. Exposure to radiation Required to maintain current certification.SCHEUDLE
Part time, 25 hours per week, Monday - Friday, primarily 8:00 am to 1 pm, holidays, on-call rotation and other shifts to accommodate department needs as assigned.
