Job Description

Position Summary Carries out Nuclear Medicine exams under the direction of medical director according to policy while performing patient care training. Adheres to established safety measures involving radiopharmacueticals. Minimum Qualifications Work Experience Previous experience preferred. Education Graduate of an accredited nuclear medicine program of study (OR) Bachelor of Science degree with 18 hours in physical science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, etc.) required. If not a graduate of a nuclear medicine program must be a Registered Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Certifications/Licensure Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (OR) Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technology in Nuclear Medicine Technology. Certification by the State of Kentucky (active or temporary) required. Job Specific Performance Standards The duties listed below are a summary of the major essential functions of this position. The position may require other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned, and specific functions may change from time to time. Performs nuclear medicine examinations according to established procedure, including identification of films with name, exam number, and date for patient records. Compares orders to patient diagnosis and history, confirming appropriateness of study. Assists patients as needed, being mindful of age appropriate needs of the patient. Records receipt of the radioactive material from the point it enters the hospital to the point of administration, and disposal.
The information to include:
the date, method of receipt, identity, activity of the material, and patient statistics that material was administered to. Confines radioactive syringes and kits in a shield area in the hot lab and allows to decay down to background level. Performs checks on equipment to insure constancy. Conducts surveys and wipe tests on scanned, injection table and preparation counter on a daily basis to insure that no spills or leakage has occurred. Reports accidents involving radioactive substances to radiation safety officer and documents the clean-up process following established safety guidelines. Uses and cares for equipment in accordance with established guidelines.
