Job Description
Position Objective:
Performs routine Nuclear Medicine imaging procedures and invitro exams in accordance with established professional and departmental standards.Essential Job Duties:
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Adheres to radiation safety/MR safety policies and procedures and follows radiation badge process. Demonstrates competency in performing routine PET/CT and nuclear medicine procedures consistent with established departmental quality standards. This includes image acquisition, processing, networking of data with other workstations, as well as PACs data archival. Maintains quality of work in the PET/CT and nuclear medicine area within established time frame and consistent with productivity standards of the department. Performs calibration and daily quality control tests of the PET/CT and nuclear medicine scanner and all equipment related to the PET/CT and nuclear medicine operations. Assists the supervisor and hospital finance department in all aspects of insurance verification. Demonstrates commitment to keeping informed of Medicare PET/CT and nuclear medicine coverage issues, and assuring Medical Center compliance with established departmental billing procedures. Instructs the patients, and nursing units in a timely manner, to assure adherence to all appropriate dietary preparations prior to the PET/CT and nuclear medicine procedures. Orders, calibrates and prepares all PET/CT and nuclear medicine radiopharmaceuticals in compliance with State license directives. 100% compliance with dosage administration schedule as regulated by the Nuclear Medicine physician, as well as state, federal and OSHA regulations regarding radioisotope administration. Performs intravenous injections and IV administrations of PET/CT and nuclear medicine isotopes in accordance with established standards. Demonstrates solid radiation safety practices to assure least amount of radiation exposure to self, and others as possible. Documents PET/CT and nuclear medicine hot lab procedures and maintains record keeping system in compliance with departmental policies, state license and all federal regulations. Assists supervisor and medical center marketing department with all aspects of growth and development of PET/CT and nuclear medicine modality. Demonstrates co-operative "teamwork" attitude with radiation oncology to assure the most efficient use of the PET/CT scanner, as well as collaborating with Radiation oncology to performPET/CT/SIM
procedures. Instructs new technologists in PET/CT policy and procedure to complete modality orientation within the designated time frame.Educational/Experience Requirements:
Successful completion of a formal program in Nuclear Medicine Technology in an AMA approved educational institution.Required License/Certifications:
American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certification. Either X-ray certification with a CT background OR successful completion of in-house CT training program for Nuclear Medicine Technologists with a Letter from the Board of Physicians giving approval to operate a CT/Nuclear Medicine Device is required.Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands:
