• Nuclear Medicine Technologist (s)duties include:
• + Performs routine to moderately complex Nuclear Medicine examination procedures.

+ These exams are achieved utilizing SPECT, SPECT/CT and PET/CT. + Knowledge of Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations [that pertain to nuclear medicine technology practices.] + Knowledge of the medical sciences such as anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and physics and how they relate to the cardiovascular, skeletal, endocrine, respiratory, gastrointestinal, and genitourinary systems of the human body. + Knowledge of radioactive package types, package surveys, and radioactive materials record management. + Ability to document excessive radiation exposure in the working environment. + Ability to communicate orally and in writing post iodine-131 radiation safety precautions. + Knowledge of radioactive package types, package surveys, and radioactive materials record management. + Ability to troubleshoot gamma camera and auxiliary equipment problems. + Ability to analyze computer generated data for technical quality and artifacts and initiate corrective measures. + Knowledge of medical events requiring documentation and the ability to properly document them and make recommendations to the radiation safety officer (RSO). + Responsible to the radiologists and supervisor for the quality and quantity of radiographic exams performed to assure a high level of acceptability of radiographic images while minimizing patient dosage. + Practice radiation safety to reduce exposure to patient, staff and self. + This is achieved using lead aprons, lead gloves, lead shields, lead-lines walls and collimation and following ALARA. + Responsible to explain exams to competent patients so that the patient understands what is to be done as well as what hazards, if any, are possible. + May be required by procedure or patients' condition to monitor vital signs, recognize allergic reactions, and initiate cardiopulmonary resuscitation. + Responsible for cleanliness and stocking adequate levels of supplies in assigned areas. + Must report equipment malfunction in a timely manner to the supervisor. + Incumbent must be professional, cooperative and be able to work with other employees. + Meet the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. + Consistently communicate and treat customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. + Provide the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. + Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
