Job Description

Emplify Health by Gundersen Palmer Lutheran is seeking a full time CRNA to join our community-oriented surgical team in West Union, IA. This position offers autonomy with a team approach supporting a variety of case types including general, ortho, endoscopy, ophthalmology, podiatry, obstetrics and other out-patient services. Care for all age groups from neonates to geriatrics. We offer a generous base salary. Schedule is rotating, including 24 hour on-call. West Union is a rural community in beautiful NE Iowa. The population base for West Union and surrounding rural communities is approximately 21,000. A state-of-the-art, completely remodeled, full-service hospital is attached to the clinic. Position Purpose:
• The CRNA provides a safe anesthetic experience for assigned patients. Provides pre and post op procedural assessment, patient education and counseling to ascertain understanding of the service provided. Provides care to patients receiving all levels of anesthesia, observes conditions of anesthetized patients and takes necessary remedial measures as directed to counteract unfavorable conditions and ensures postoperative anesthesia recovery.
Scheduling Pattern:
• This is a salaried position with generally day hours with night, weekend and holiday rotation availability required.
Education/Licensure/Training/Experience:
• Graduation from an accredited school of nurse anesthesia. Current Iowa RN license, ARNP credentials, certification by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and DEA registration required.
BLS, ACLS, PALS
certification required. Minimum of one year CRNA experience required.
Special Skills & Abilities:
• Possess a thorough knowledge of nursing principles and procedures, all types of and methods of administration of anesthetic agents, contraindications of anesthesia procedures to patients, remedial measures to relieve adverse development in patients' conditions and precautionary measures necessary for safe usage of anesthetic agents. Must possess knowledge of standard operating room methods, equipment and procedures; knows how to position patients for various types of operation and is able to use endotracheal equipment and do venipunctures; must possess a thorough familiarity with all pharmacological effects of various anesthetic agents with physiological symptoms of each and with legal aspects of certain types of surgery; ability to function independently under general guidance of the surgeon and the policies and procedures of the institution; duties require independent action and judgment; utilizes time management, communication, planning delegating and problem solving in providing service; follows general guidelines prescribed by standard policies and procedures; utilizes expanded skills of group leading, education, consulting, negotiating and collaboration in providing care; must possess and demonstrate critical thinking skills; requires physical strength to lift patients/ equipment; frequently requires the ability to transfer patients with the assistance of one or more people; must be able to exert at least 25 pounds of force to assist with patient care; finite rapid eye/hand coordination required to operate technical devises associated with patient care; must maintain emotional stability in emergency situations.

This position will be working in a patient care area and will have access to oral, written, and electronic data containing patient information. This information is needed in order to carry out the duties assigned to this position. All staff will display name badges when seeking data. Staff will have electronic access via their own individual password and will log off as appropriate when inquiry is complete. Patient records and charts will be kept in a confidential manner in a controlled area to assure privacy and security of such information. Essential Functions:

Ensures that an informed consent is obtained for anesthesia 1. Selects, applies and inserts appropriate monitoring modalities for continuous evaluation of patient status 2. Demonstrates the ability to respond to emergency situations within established parameters 3. Ensures documentation of all pertinent patient information meets organizational standards 4. Assists in assuring the establishment and maintenance of standards of care and standards of practice 5. Assumes responsibility for maintaining certification and competency 6. Demonstrates knowledge of current standards of practice and ability to teach and apply to daily practice 7. Considers all factors related to safety, effectiveness and efficiency in planning and delivering patient care 8. Develops and implements an anesthesia plan and implements general, regional, local and sedation techniques appropriately 2. Manages the patients airway and pulmonary status using current appropriate modalities 3. Facilitates emergence and recovery form anesthesia by administering appropriate adjunctive care and ventilator support 4. Discharges patients from post-anesthesia care/provides post anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care 5. Makes decisions and takes actions on behalf of patients that are guided by ethical standards including maintaining confidentiality and delivers care in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner 6. Acts as a resource person for decisions and planning regarding CRNA services 7. Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of patient care delivery.
