Job Description

•Candidate must be able to work 20 weeks per/year with at least 9 weekends of call/year. Administers anesthesia and anesthesia-related care. Monitors and supports vital life functions. Acts as the patient's advocate while the patient is under anesthesia. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities (CQI). Performs and documents a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient. Develops and implements an anesthetic plan of care, including monitoring modalities and post-anesthesia follow-up evaluation and care. Selects, obtains and administers the anesthetic plan of care, including induction, maintenance and emergence phase anesthesia. Recognizes alterations in physiologic responses to the surgical procedure and/or the anesthetic, takes appropriate action and notifies the responsible physician as indicated. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Performs a smooth induction of anesthesia for patients requiring general anesthetic. Performs smooth patient emergence and recovery from anesthesia by maintaining homeostasis, providing relief from pain and anesthesia side effects. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient, neonate through geriatric. Displays ability to intubate most patients with ease, manages the patient's airway and pulmonary status through the perioperative process. Prevents and manages complications through selecting, obtaining, ordering and administering medications, fluids or ventilator support in correct dosages and methods. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patient and family. Responds to emergency situations requiring anesthesia services, knowledge or technique throughout the organization. Qualifications Current Indiana Registered Nurse (RN) license
Certifications:
BLS, ACLS and PALS required (or must obtain within 6 months of hire) Nurse Anesthetist credentialed from the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date Comments •Eligible for the Choose Southern Indiana Program, which offers $5,000 to recent college graduates (within 6 months) from within Indiana or experienced workers from out-of-state that move to and gain employment.
