Full Job Description Description:
The CRNA's overall clinical and administrative responsibilities include: 1) Agreement to abide by Anesthesia Consultants of Massachusetts' (ACM) policies and procedures. 2) Agreement to abide and practice under the approved CRNA delineation of BESLC medical staff privileges. 3) Agreement to abide by the policies and procedures of BESLC including but not limited to: Blood Borne Pathogen Standard, Universal Precautions, Patient and Equipment Safety. 4) Assessment and documentation of equipment, drugs and gas supply. 5) Participation in the overall Quality Improvement program of BESLC which monitors and evaluates quality of anesthesia care provided at BESLC's ambulatory surgery center and takes steps to correct/improve care delivered. 6) Examine patient, perform a heart and lung assessment, obtain medical history and use diagnostic tests to determine risk of anesthesia in connection with surgical procedures. 7) Order laboratory tests, as necessary. 8) Insert peripheral intravenous catheters in patients as needed. 9) Position patient on stretcher chair to maximize patient comfort and surgical accessibility. 10) Under supervision of an Anesthesiologist/CRNA Lead Anesthetist (or Operating Surgeon, if an Anesthesiologist/CRNA Lead Anesthetist is not available), administer anesthetic or sedation during medical procedures, using local and/or intravenous methods. 11) Monitor patient before, during, and after anesthesia and counteract adverse reactions or complications. 12) Record type and amount of anesthesia and patient condition throughout procedure. 13) Provide and maintain life support and airway management and assist in preparing patients for surgery. 14) Ensure timely completion of medical records.
Requirements:
a. Satisfactory completion of a formal accredited educational program meeting the standards required by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. b. Current advanced practice registered nurse certification from a national certification organization approved by the Board of Registration in Nursing for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists. c. Licensed and registered in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts through the Board of Registration in Nursing to practice as a Registered Nurse and a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
