Responsibilities Patient Screening:
Conduct a comprehensive evaluation to ensure the patient is a candidate for ketamine therapy and to identify contraindications.Monitoring:
Continuously monitor vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation, and respiratory rate) and level of consciousness throughout the session.Symptom Management:
Manage potential psycho mimetic side effects and provide emotional support during the dissociative experience.Recovery Monitoring:
Continue monitoring the patient until vital signs return to baseline and they are oriented and ambulatory.Discharge Planning:
Ensure the patient is discharged to the care of a responsible adult.Documentation & Compliance:
Accurately document all treatment parameters, patient responses, and any adverse events. Comply with all state and federal regulations regarding the prescribing and storage of controlled substances.Informed Consent:
Educate the patient and/or caregiver about the procedure, expected dissociative effects, potential risks, and recovery process, and obtain formal informed consent.Dose Calculation:
Calculate the precise IM dose according to the indication. Requirements Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license (PMHNP or FNP with psychiatric experience). At least 1-2 years of clinical experience in inpatient psychiatry, detox, or behavioral health settings. Proficiency in psychiatric medication management and knowledge of stabilization protocols. Experience with sub-acute or residential treatment programs preferred. Ability to work independently with sound clinical judgment. Current CPR/BLS certification required. Familiarity with electronic health record systems, (Bestnotes).
