Job Description

A respected cardiovascular surgery program in Redding, CA seeks an experienced Cardiovascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner for a locum assignment. This role supports a well-established cardiac surgery team, working collaboratively with surgeons across the operating room, inpatient wards, and outpatient clinic. Ideal candidates have robust first‑assist experience in cardiovascular surgery and demonstrated proficiency in endovascular vein harvesting (EVH). Schedule & call Onsite shifts: 7:00 AM-5:00 PM Night call: 5:00 PM-7:00 AM Weekend and holiday coverage required per assignment schedule Average callback: ~1-2 hours No ICU, Cath Lab, or Emergency Department call duties Clinical scope & volume Approximately 10-11 cardiac surgeries per month, with additional thoracic cases available for first assist Daily inpatient rounding; average census typically under 10 patients Outpatient follow‑up clinic: Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, up to ~6 patients per session APPs support postoperative documentation and collaborative patient management with surgeons Key responsibilities First assist in cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures Perform endovascular vein harvesting (EVH) Manage preoperative and postoperative patient care and documentation Conduct inpatient rounds and participate in daily patient management Evaluate patients in outpatient follow‑up clinic Collaborate closely with surgeons and multidisciplinary team members Required qualifications Board‑certified Nurse Practitioner Active California license preferred Current ACLS, BLS, and DEA certification Recent, substantial cardiovascular surgery experience with strong first‑assist background Proven experience performing EVH is mandatory
