Position Summary:
Atlanta Perinatal Associates (APA) is seeking a compassionate and experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to provide mental health care and therapeutic support to women navigating high-risk pregnancies and perinatal challenges. This role is part of a growing integrated behavioral health initiative designed to ensure that APA patients receive holistic care throughout their maternal journey.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments of perinatal patients, including those experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, substance use, and mood disorders. Collaborate with maternal-fetal medicine specialists, OB/GYNs, social workers, and primary care teams to develop and implement patient-centered care plans. May prescribe and manage psychotropic medications when indicated, with special attention to pregnancy and postpartum safety and evidence-based practices. Provide short-term counseling and crisis intervention as appropriate to support patients experiencing acute emotional distress. Monitor patients' progress, adjust treatment plans, and provide ongoing support to improve mental health outcomes throughout pregnancy and postpartum. Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, treatments, and wellness strategies in an empathetic, culturally competent manner. Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and organizational standards. Participate in interdisciplinary case reviews, team meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives to promote best practices in maternal behavioral health care.
Required Qualifications:
Licensed and board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) in the state of Georgia. Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited PMHNP program. Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience working with women's behavioral health, preferably in perinatal or reproductive psychiatry settings. DEA certification and ability to prescribe controlled substances. Current BLS certification. Excellent interpersonal, clinical, and communication skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams. Knowledge of trauma-informed care, culturally sensitive practices, and patient-centered models of care.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with diverse populations, particularly women of color and underserved communities. Familiarity with
EPDS, GAD-7, PHQ-9
screening tools, and perinatal mental health protocols. Bilingual in English and Spanish or other languages is a plus. Why Join APA?
