Outpatient Behavioral Health & Addiction Medicine Position Overview A growing outpatient behavioral health and addiction medicine organization is seeking an experienced Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join its interdisciplinary team in Bangor, Maine. This position offers the opportunity to practice in a highly collaborative environment focused on improving the lives of patients struggling with mental health conditions and substance use disorders. The PMHNP will provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, treatment planning, and ongoing behavioral health support for a diverse patient population. Due to the autonomous nature of the role and the absence of on-site clinical supervision, candidates must possess a minimum of two (2) years of post-certification PMHNP experience. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments Diagnose and treat a wide range of mental health disorders Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications Monitor patient progress, medication efficacy, and side effects Develop individualized treatment plans in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams Provide patient education regarding diagnoses, treatment options, and medication compliance Participate in case reviews and interdisciplinary care planning Coordinate care with primary care providers, therapists, case managers, and outside specialists Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the EMR system Ensure compliance with all regulatory, state, and organizational standards Qualifications Required Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Active Maine APRN License or ability to obtain Active DEA Registration Minimum of 2 years of PMHNP experience after obtaining board certification Experience independently managing psychiatric medication regimens Strong diagnostic, assessment, and treatment planning skills Preferred Experience working within behavioral health, addiction medicine, substance use disorder, or MAT programs Prior outpatient psychiatric practice experience Experience with Athena or similar EMR platforms Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary: $150,000 $175,000 Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage 401(k) retirement plan Paid time off and paid holidays CME allowance and professional development support Malpractice coverage Relocation assistance available Stable weekday schedule with excellent work-life balance Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a compassionate, patient-focused PMHNP who enjoys practicing independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
