Job Description
Position Summary Minnesota Mental Health Clinics is seeking a skilled and compassionate Lead Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join and help lead our outpatient psychiatry team. This hybrid role combines direct clinical care with leadership and administrative responsibilities. The Lead NP will provide psychiatric evaluation and treatment for clients while also mentoring and supporting fellow psychiatric nurse practitioners, collaborating with psychiatry and therapy teams, and driving quality improvements and operational efficiency within the department. Key Responsibilities Clinical Care (Approximately 75% of role): Responsible for the successful delivery of production, quality, and client experience goals for a team of psychiatric service providers. Provide direct psychiatric care including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and medication management. Maintain a part-time caseload with a focus on delivering high-quality, evidence-based care. Collaborate closely with therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and care navigators to ensure integrated care. Educate patients and families about diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and health promotion strategies. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with legal and organizational standards. Leadership & Administrative Duties (Approximately 25% of role): Serve as the primary point of contact for Psychiatric providers. Provide mentorship, consultation, and clinical guidance to Nurse Practitioners, with a focus on clinical excellence, patient safety, and professional development. Participate in the hiring, onboarding, and ongoing support of Psychiatry staff. Facilitate provider rounding, promote team engagement, and proactively address provider needs or concerns. Monitor documentation, compliance, and productivity standards; offer coaching when performance concerns arise. Leverage patient satisfaction and clinical outcome data to support growth and quality improvement. Maintain quality assurance and compliance standards. Represent the NP team in multidisciplinary meetings and leadership forums. Work closely with the Medical Director and Senior Director of Specialty Clinics of Operations to implement initiatives, solve problems, and support operational success. Measures for Success The Lead Nurse Practitioner is accountable for outcomes across business performance, clinical quality, team leadership, and operational execution. Psychiatry service line revenue grows year over year through improved NP productivity, reduced no-shows, expanded access, and clean documentation that supports accurate coding. NP team meets target visit volume per FTE and time-to-first-appointment benchmarks.ClinicalOutcomes:
defined percentage of active patients show measurable symptom improvement on standardized instruments (PHQ-9, GAD-7) within 90 days. First-month dropout rates decrease, medication safety standards are met at 100%, and patient satisfaction scores meet or exceed department targets.TeamLeadership:
NP team engagement and retention improve year over year. New hires reach full productivity within 90 days, underperformers are identified and coached to standard within a defined window, and at least one NP per year is developed for advanced scope or leadership.OperationalImpact:
Successfully delivers two or more department-level improvement initiatives annually with documented business or clinical impact, in partnership with the Medical Director and Senior Director of Specialty Clinics. Required Qualifications Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in the state of Minnesota. Board Certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). Minimum 2 years of clinical experience as a Psychiatric NP.Preferred:
At least 1 year of team leadership and supervisory experience. Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited nursing program. Knowledge of evidence-based psychiatric practices and psychopharmacology.Preferred:
experience in managing care in SPMI, trauma, neurodivergence and/or women's health patient populations. Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with electronic health records and comfort using healthcare technologies. Preferred Attributes Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. Experience navigating systems-level clinical process improvements. Demonstrated ability to build positive team culture and provider engagement.
