Locum Trauma & Acute Care Surgery NP/PA Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner (with RNFA) or Physician Assistant for a specialized locum tenens assignment at a Level II Trauma Center . This role provides critical support for Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, covering trauma alerts, surgical consultations, and inpatient management. This is a temporary coverage need through October 2026 while the facility recruits a permanent provider.

Schedule & Coverage:

Duration:

ASAP through October 2026.

Shifts:

12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM).

Call:

No formal call required; coverage is shift-based within a 24/7 in-house surgical model.

Environment:

Hospital-based; APP will work under 24/7 in-house physician supervision and will not work autonomously.

Clinical Responsibilities:

Trauma & ER Support:

Immediate response to Trauma Alerts and Emergency Department surgical consultations.

Inpatient Care:

Lead rounding, manage progress notes, facilitate admissions/discharges, and respond to house codes/Rapid Response Team calls.

Surgical Support:

Provide dedicated OR support for Trauma and Acute Care Surgery cases.

Required Procedures:

Lines & Tubes:

Insertion of Chest Tubes, Central Lines, Arterial Lines, and PICC Lines.

Airway/Ventilation:

Ventilation management and non-invasive support (BiPAP/CPAP).

Technical Skills:

Minor laceration suturing and surgical first assisting.

Submission & Experience Requirements:

Licensure:

Active New Jersey State License in hand is required (no pending licenses).

Certifications:

Current BLS, ACLS, and ATLS or ATCN are required .

Experience:

Proven experience in Trauma and Acute Care Surgery is required . Proficiency in the specific procedures listed above (Lines, Tubes, Vent Management) is required .

Education/Credential:

NP candidates must hold an RNFA (Registered Nurse First Assistant) certification.

EMR:

Experience with Cerner is highly preferred.
