Job Responsibilities Under limited supervision of a SC Licensed Psychiatrist, Provides advanced psychiatric/medical care for individuals and populations with complex nursing/medical and mental health needs. Works independently with minimal supervision providing diagnosis and treatment according to protocols. Establishes and monitors standards for clinical practice within SCDC. Uses prescriptive authority. Monitors medication. Conducts psychiatric assessments. Participates in treatment team and completes and records health histories of inmates. Conducts suicide/crisis intervention assessments. Performs all admissions procedures for a designated caseload of mentally ill patients, including appropriate family history and completes physical examination and completes psychiatric assessments. Distinguishes between normal and abnormal findings. Attends probate court hearings. Orders diagnostic testing as appropriate, including radiologic and lab studies; accurately interprets findings. Minimum and Additional Requirements State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing at the master's level or doctoral level acceptable to the board to include clinical experience.
SCDC Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing at the master's level or doctoral level and certified as a nurse practitioner by the SC Board of Nursing or licensed in another state and eligible for licensure which must be obtained within 6 months of employment. Must have 3 years of active clinical practice as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP). Must have basic life support certification. Preferred Qualifications Correctional, community mental health center or emergency psychiatric care experience is strongly preferred.
