Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
The nurse practitioner is responsible for the personal primary care of his or her patients. This responsibility includes the provision of and attention to the care of major and minor illnesses to long range health issues and diseases within the scope of individual knowledge. The nurse practitioner also serves in a care coordination role for the practice in which he/she will coordinate team-based care for individuals through effective partnership with patients, their caregivers/families, community resources, and their physicians.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduate of an accredited Master's Degree nursing program.
Licensure:
Current Tennessee license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Active DEA Registration and BLS certification required. Must possess an active American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Certification or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) Certification. Must have a National Provider Identification (NPI) number. Must maintain all necessary narcotic and controlled substances registration numbers and licenses required for the performance of duties. Active BLS certification required.
Experience:
Clinical experience obtained in nursing school or work experience as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse including progressive knowledge of pathophysiology and physical assessment. Previous family practice experience preferred.
Skills:
Ability to communicate with doctors, patients, and visitors. The employee must demonstrate the knowledge and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in his / her patient population. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principle of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. Must possess knowledge of disease process and appropriate treatment. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing. Also must possess the ability to use critical thinking, organizing, and planning skills.
Physical Demands:
High volume use of telephone and computer. Work is performed under very tight time constraints often under stressful conditions. Must be able to move from room to room and position self for appropriate communication with patients and their families. Required to stand, bend, lift, squat, climb, reach above head, crawl and sit; lift, and carry equipment. Includes the ability to manipulate 21-50 lbs 20-30 times per shift; able to lift and carry 20-50 lbs unassisted. The ability to stand and walk 80% of the time during shift duty. Physical demands include the ability to visualize color gradient in waived tests. Must be able to hear to complete manual blood pressure and have the ability to distinguish abnormal odors. Also required is the ability to hear and comprehend patient request including rapid response to emergency signals and emergency situations such as patients falls and cardiopulmonary arrest. Requires manual dexterity to write, grasp, push/pull, perform fine manipulation skills, speak English, and ability to use foot, and/or hand operated equipment.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in an outpatient care setting. Conditions range from moderate to high degree of disagreeable features. Exposure to odors, materials, chemicals and infectious products are encountered daily. utilize standard precautions at all times. Exposure to accidental injury and infectious diseases of a high degree, and difficult to avoid. The employee is responsible to wear the proper protective safety equipment and/or infection control attire.

Patients, families, physicians, office and other hospital staff, as well as other community care providers.

None Complexity of Duties:
Must perform a variety of duties comprised of many highly technical skills. Critical thinking and problem solving requiring a high degree of creativity and decision making is required. Time limits are relevant. Special skills include technical skills, public relations, counseling of patients, families, and other team members. Work requires judgment in the application of broad aspects of established practices to problems and situations with critical patient outcomes.
