Job Description

Schedule
  • Shift hours: 9:00 PM 7:00 AM (10-hour night shifts)
  • 4 shifts per week, Monday through Friday mornings (typically Monday night through Thursday night, providing overnight coverage that concludes Friday morning; exact rotation coordinated with the team to maintain weekday continuity)
  • No scheduled weekend shifts unless agreed upon for coverage needs.
SUMMARY:
Night Cardiac Surgery APP functions as an autonomous, hospital-based provider on the CT Surgery service. Working under the supervision of the attending cardiac surgeon, the APP provides continuous, high-acuity management of adult cardiac surgery patients during overnight hours. This role ensures seamless 24/7 coverage for post-operative care, urgent evaluations, and rapid response to clinical deterioration in the Cardiac Surgery ICU (CVICU), step-down unit (CVSD), and telemetry floors.
PATIENT POPULATION
    Primary:
    Adult post-operative cardiac surgery patients (CABG, valve repair/replacement, aortic aneurysm/dissection repair, adult congenital repairs, Impella/IABP support, rare ECMO).
      Secondary:
      Pre-operative urgent/emergent cardiac surgery admissions or consultations occurring overnight.
      RESPONSIBILITIES
      Patient Management:
      Admissions, overnight rounding, and ongoing management (hemodynamics, vents, drips, anticoagulation, etc.)
      Diagnostics & Orders:
      Order/interpret labs, imaging, EKGs; adjust care plans
      Critical Care:
      Lead/respond to codes and rapid responses; manage complications (bleeding, tamponade, arrhythmias, stroke, AKI, sepsis)
      Procedures:
      Lines, chest tubes, thoracentesis, pacing wires, IABP troubleshooting, wound/drain care (per privileging)
      Care Coordination:
      Handoffs (SBAR), collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, occasional discharges/transfers
      REQUIREMENTS
