Job Description

Overview We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Locum Nurse Practitioner- Acute Care for our client in Texas! Responsibilities Provide comprehensive clinical care within an inpatient acute care setting, managing a patient volume of 14-16 patients per shift. Execute daily inpatient workflows, including managing patient admissions, coordinates discharges, and communicating effectively with internal floors and transfer teams. Act as a primary clinical responder by running codes and performing critical procedures such as intubations, central lines, trialysis lines, and arterial lines (procedure volume varies from none to 2 or 3 per night in a 7-day week). Collaborate closely with the medical team, maintaining communication with an onsite or phone-available physician during the day, and a phone-available physician during night shifts. Document all patient assessments, treatment plans, and clinical interventions accurately within the Epic EMR system. Qualifications Must be an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. Must be Board-Certified or truly Board-Eligible. Requires a minimum of 1 year of clinical experience in an acute care environment. Must hold active Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications. An active Drug Enforcement Administration (Control Substance Registration Certificate) registration is required. Must possess an active state license or an active Interstate Medical Licensure Compact (IMLC) license. Successful completion of the facility's 90-day credentialing timeframe.
Schedule Coverage Period:
July 31, 2026, through August 30, 2026, with potential for ongoing shifts as required by the facility.
Call Requirements:
Scheduled clinical hours only; there are no separate on-call responsibilities.
Shift Times:
Dedicated day and night clinical coverage with shifts structured from 6:00 AM to 6:00 AM (24-hour block) or 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM (12-hour night block). Skills Advanced proficiency in essential inpatient procedures, including intubation, central line placement, trialysis line placement, and arterial line insertion. Strong clinical competence in code management, acute care admissions, and discharge protocols. Experience or clinical familiarity with stroke protocols within a Hospital Stroke Certified facility. Prior experience in a Neuro-ICU managing neurology and neurosurgery patients is highly preferred and considered a strong asset for placement flexibility. Efficient navigation and electronic documentation utilizing the Epic EMR platform. All travel expenses are reimbursed by our client and Orchard covers malpractice insurance with tail coverage!
