Advanced Practice Provider (APP/PA/NP) - Cardiovascular Surgery The Rector & Visitors of the University of Virginia $124,845.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education. vision insurance, paid time off United States, Virginia, Charlottesville 1215 Lee Street (Show on map) May 19, 2026 The Division of Cardiac Surgery is seeking an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to function as part of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The primary responsibility of a successful candidate will be to act as a first or second assistant for adult cardiac surgery cases. Additionally, this provider will be responsible for endovein and radial harvesting. When not in the operating room the APP will assist in cardiac surgery clinic.
Schedule:
Variable. Typically, 4 days/week, 10-hour shifts. Rotating night, weekend and holiday OR call. Background checks and pre-employment health screenings will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a drug screen. Clinical First and second assist in cardiac surgery operations. Independently endovein harvest. Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing management of patients. Support the evaluation and care coordination of patients Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, and post-procedural care. Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up care. Ensures accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to UVA Health documentation and compliance standards. Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and program development initiatives. Contribute to quality improvement efforts, research, and/or educational outreach within the department of surgery. Contributes to ongoing efforts to enhance care models that increase access and improve outcomes Participates in divisional and departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and strategic planning initiatives. Provides mentorship and education to students, and new staff members. Advocates for access to health care through community partnerships, outreach, and systems-based improvement initiatives. Professional Demonstrates professionalism through effective communication, teamwork, and commitment to UVA Health's mission and values. Participates in interprofessional collaboration with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, care coordinators, social workers and learners to ensure seamless, team-based care. Engages in continuous professional development and educational activities, including teaching and mentoring opportunities within the Division. Promotes health equity, inclusion, and family-centered approaches in all aspects of care delivery. Administration Partners with APP and department leadership to optimize patient flow, operational efficiency, and access to care. Supports implementation of enhanced care delivery models designed to improve patient health outcomes and satisfaction. Participates in performance improvement, data reporting, and outcomes tracking for quality metrics. Leadership Acts as role model to colleagues, interdisciplinary team members, the institution and to the community Demonstrates respect to all within the institution and community Demonstrates leadership abilities in the development, mentorship and empowerment of others within the healthcare community. Assumes a leadership role in the development of the Advanced Practice Role to patients, families, other healthcare professionals and to the community.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree.
Experience:
Department and unit specific.
Licensure:
License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The starting base rate for this role is $124,845.00 annually. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
