This role offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic, high-acuity environment, providing advanced patient care for individuals undergoing complex cardiac and thoracic surgeries. The ideal candidate will possess extensive critical care experience, demonstrate proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems, and have a strong commitment to delivering exceptional patient outcomes. This position involves night shifts at our state-of-the-art facility, supporting the recovery and stabilization of patients in the immediate postoperative period. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive preoperative assessments and postoperative care for cardiothoracic surgery patients, including monitoring vital signs, managing airway and ventilator support, and assessing physiological stability. Administer medications, including injections and infusions, following established protocols while ensuring adherence to HIPAA regulations and aseptic techniques. Perform diagnostic evaluations such as physical examinations, cardiac catheterizations, and other procedures pertinent to cardiothoracic critical care. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans, coordinate discharge planning, and facilitate patient education on recovery processes. Manage acute pain through appropriate interventions, including medication administration and non-pharmacologic strategies. Utilize EMR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate data collection, medical records management, and documentation of patient care activities. Assist in clinical research initiatives related to cardiothoracic surgery outcomes, data collection, and quality improvement projects. Conduct triage assessments for incoming patients in urgent or emergent situations within a Level I Trauma Center environment. Support infection control practices and participate in ongoing training related to hospital standards and clinical trials. Engage in continuous professional development by maintaining certifications such as BLS/BPLS and pursuing specialized training in cardiothoracic critical care. Experience Proven critical care experience within an ICU setting, preferably in a Level I or Level II trauma center specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. Demonstrated proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic or Cerner; telehealth experience is advantageous. Strong background in hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or medical-surgical units with exposure to acute care procedures. Familiarity with CPT coding for procedures performed and ICD coding for diagnoses documentation. Experience with ventilator management, airway management techniques, and invasive procedures like cardiac catheterization. Knowledge of pharmacology related to pain management, sedation protocols, and medication administration standards. Prior involvement in clinical research or trials focusing on cardiac or thoracic conditions is preferred. Excellent patient assessment skills coupled with effective communication abilities across diverse healthcare teams. Commitment to maintaining HIPAA compliance and ensuring patient safety through aseptic techniques and meticulous documentation.
