Job Description:
The Assistant Coordinator of Nursing supports the Coordinator of Nursing in managing the daily operations of school health services. This role focuses on staff oversight, compliance monitoring, staff training, and emergency preparedness while ensuring continuity of care for students.
Qualifications:
Registered Nurse; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required Current Alabama Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing. Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and instructor-certified or willingness to become CPR instructor certified within 6 months of employment. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. At least 3 years of previous school nurse experience. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Background Check Required:
(Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5)- Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old. Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Knowledge of School Nursing laws and regulations and Alabama Board of Nursing Standards of Practice Knowledge of effective procedures and practices for vision, hearing and other appropriate health screening activities. Knowledge of and experience with principles and theories of adult learning for effective staff development and in-service activities. Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices. Ability to demonstrate effective leadership skills in group settings. Effective written and oral communication skills. Ability to organize, maintain and report data and information related to health services. Ability to use effective public relations skills necessary for the successful implementation of programs, the coordination of committees and to maintain productive relationships with colleagues. Knowledge of Board policies and procedures. Knowledge of school system functions, departments, personnel and schools necessary for the efficient and effective processing of communications, requesting of needed information and implementation of the school nursing programs. Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high- intensive work environment. Ability to travel between the schools throughout the school system.
Essential Functions:
Assist with monitoring and verifying RN staff licensure at the beginning of each school year and renewal years. Assist with staffing coverage, scheduling, and evaluation support. Assist Coordinator with oversight of summer school nursing staff. Support compliance monitoring and conduct student health record audits. Provide orientation and procedural training for new nursing staff. Assist with the development and implementation of standards of practice. Serve as relief on-call for the Health Services Coordinator. Assist with MERT (Medical Emergency Response Team) training in schools. Collect and compile monthly and year-end report data. Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) instruction for nursing staff. Collaborate with Coordinator on professional development initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned by the Coordinator. Support nursing staff by providing coverage when substitute staff is unavailable or in emergent situations. This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools. Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non- probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
Expected Employment:
240 days/8hrs. (full year)

Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
