Full Job Description Job Title:
Licensed School Nurse Assistant Reports to: School Nurse Must like working with children.
Regular hour:
8:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday-Friday. Paid hourly.
Summary:
Under supervision of the school nurse, the Licensed School Nurse Assistant will perform a variety of student health care delivery services; perform a variety of student health services related record keeping; assist with health related testing and screening; and to perform related work as required. This position maintains student health records, performs routine record keeping functions and provides direct assistance to the school nurse. The licensed school nurse assistant has a moderate level of public contact in person and/or on the telephone
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 Assists school nurse with review of immunization records and emergency medical records.  Assists school nurse in the maintenance of student health records.  Assists school nurse with mandated screening and preparation of documentation to parents.  Assists school nurse with review of student records to identify students not in compliance with mandated health issues.  Assists school nurse in the preparation and distribution of required reports.  Files health records and forms.  Attends IEP meetings as directed by the school nurse.  Assists school nurse with diabetic case management  Assists school nurse in health assessments as directed.  Contact parents to gather missing or incomplete student information Notify parents of significant injuries and health concerns in the absence of school nurse.  Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information.  Assists school nurse with screening students who present signs and symptoms of a communicable disease/condition and exclude them from school when necessary.  Assess and provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff in the absence of school nurse.  Assists school nurse with educating school personnel on Universal Precautions, seizures, asthma, diabetic and allergic reaction protocol.  Assists medical fragile student with pulmonary care and ambulatory deficits.  Administer medication and document medication in the medication administration record. Document daily, students' medical procedures in log book.  Monitors inventory of supplies and notify certificated school nurse.  Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities:
 Basic nursing skills.  Good oral and written communication skills.  Proper methods of reporting health problems and concerns according to established guidelines.  Emergency care and protocol related to healthcare delivery.  Office procedures, practices, and equipment.  Accurate record keeping and filing.  Proper English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.  Basic health equipment and instruments.  Health Information Privacy Act and regulations.  Medical terminology.  Adhere to and meet designated timelines.  Use and understand medical terminology.  Establish rapport with students, parents, and faculty.  Exercise good judgment, use discretion, work independently, and maintain confidentiality.  Follow oral and written instructions.  Maintain accurate clerical records, and perform a variety of basic clerical tasks.  Assess emergency situation quickly and calmly.
Education and Experience:
 First aid and CPR certificate.  Vocational nurses license or Associate RN license.  One year experience working in a clinical setting.
Required Licenses/Certificates:
 Criminal Justice/Fingerprint clearance  Mandated Reporter - required annually  Verification of TB clearance
