Description Job Purpose:
Provide direct care and management of clients in an acute, 24-hour psychiatric stabilization unit. Supports the day-to-day functioning of the clinical team and provides leadership through supervision and consultative support for staff.
Goals and Objectives:
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide crisis assessment, monitoring, and client care in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/clinical care errors, while providing support to the people receiving services.
  • Provide a consistent, on-site (where possible) leadership presence for teams.
  • Foster staff development and competency through supervision, coaching, trainings, and team meetings.
  • Monitor documentation and oversee clinical care delivery to ensure regulatory standards and/or contractual requirements are met.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in specialized training.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Monitor the clinical milieu including accountability for completion of routine 15-minute, 30-minute and line-of-sight checks. Initiate regular interactions with clients to observe client mental status and safety risk on the unit
  • Assist clients in activities of daily living and lead supportive care initiatives
  • Provide opportunities, through daily interaction, for clients to achieve optimal wellness during an acute mental health crisis while aligning with treatment goals
  • Facilitate some therapeutic groups and activities to assist clients in developing skills to help them problem solve, reduce crisis response, meet goals, and prepare for discharge to the community
  • Assist with admission and discharge of clients
  • Actively participate in crisis management, including de-escalation when a person is in crisis or at risk of escalating on the unit
  • Ensure timely documentation of all interventions provided. Ensure all clinical and administrative documentation is written according to regulatory guidelines
  • Demonstrate good communication and professionalism with clients, co-workers and outside agency personnel in order to provide high quality services and enhance community relationships
  • Follow all AllHealth Network policies and procedures
  • Complete all required trainings as listed in Relias Learning (both online training and face-to-face training) within required timelines
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of the position and the experience, education and ability of the employee.
  • In conjunction with Clinical Managers, oversee the administrative supervision of the team to ensure performance standards and staffing needs are met.
  • Complete the ongoing monthly staff schedule and ensure proper staff coverage.
  • Provide support to team members including assistance with crisis situations and other urgent matters.
  • Work collaboratively with Management team to understand department objectives, strategies and vision in order to maximize staff efficiencies and operations.
  • Assist with developing a successful, productive and cohesive team to achieve performance metrics.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to staff, including training, to maintain ongoing job competencies.
  • Directly manage complex requests from clients, providers or staff.
  • Review and approve employee timesheets and time off requests.
  • Act as a resource to answer questions and assist with delegated tasks and projects.
  • Follow all AllHealth Network policies and procedures
  • Complete all required trainings as listed in Relias Learning (both online training and face-to-face training) within required timelines
  • Ensure staff complete all required training in Relias as well as live required trainings.
  • Assist with interviewing job candidates.
  • Work evening shifts to provide leadership coverage to the units outside of regular business hours.
  • Perform other duties as required within the scope of the position and the experience, education and ability of the employee.
Key Technical Skills and Knowledge:
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED. Some college in Human Services or Nursing Assistant Certification preferred. Experience
  • Coursework in Behavioral Health, or related experience preferred.
  • At least one year supervision and management experience preferred.
  • May require additional specialized experience and knowledge depending on program needs and focus, i.e., housing, vocational rehabilitation, recovery, working with special populations, etc. Skills
  • Ability to establish trust and rapport with individuals in acute care settings and their support systems, including families, significant others and caretakers.
  • Ability to assess and intervene in crisis situations.
  • Ability to document according to guidelines in the Electronic Health Record
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Must be competent in therapeutic interventions and have the ability to coach staff in these areas
  • Must be skilled in risk assessment and have the ability to coach staff in these areas.
  • Knowledge of community resources
Key Technical Skills and Knowledge:
    Education:
    Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field.
      Experience:
      Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a clinical setting in the behavioral health field.
      • Demonstrate a high level of skill in assessment, evaluation and therapeutic engagement of diverse clients; use of evidence-based counseling models and techniques that match presenting problems; good diagnostic skills and treatment/care planning; and the ability to work with clinical documentation and electronic health records (EHR).
      • Knowledge of DSM V and working principles of recovery and trauma-informed care in treatment planning and in direct care. Experience working with individuals and families who experience various mental, behavioral, and substance abuse conditions.
      • Ability to operate PC-based software programs including proficiency in Word, Excel and other computer based systems.
      • Possess advanced written and oral communication, decision making and problem solving skills, and efficient time management. Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team; collaborating with other internal and external teams.
      • Must possess own transportation, have a good driving record, a valid driver's license, and proof of insurance.
