Job Description

Overview We are seeking a skilled RNFA Registered Nurse to serve as a Surgical First Assistant, specializing in endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting. This role is vital in supporting surgical teams during procedures and ensuring optimal patient outcomes. The ideal candidate has experience with vein and radial harvesting and is comfortable using the Terumo system. This position offers a crucial opportunity to contribute to highly specialized surgical care in a hospital setting Responsibilities Assist surgeons during operative procedures by providing surgical instrumentation, tissue handling, suturing, and other technical support in accordance with established protocols. Ensure adherence to aseptic techniques and infection control standards throughout all phases of patient care. Conduct thorough preoperative assessments, including reviewing medical records, understanding medical terminology, and evaluating vital signs. Participate in discharge planning by coordinating post-operative care instructions and ensuring smooth patient transitions from the operating room. Monitor patient physiology during surgery, including vital signs and responses to anesthesia, adjusting support as necessary. Document all intraoperative activities accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical records. Demonstrate proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic or similar platforms for documentation and communication. Collaborate effectively with hospital medicine teams, critical care units, emergency medicine staff, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes. Maintain current knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and infection prevention practices relevant to perioperative care. Support hospital initiatives related to patient safety, quality improvement, and compliance with healthcare standards.

Have Skills:
Additional vascular surgery experience Prior roles involving on-call responsibilities
Preferred Education and Experience:
Valid RN license in Louisiana or compact Previous vascular or cardiovascular surgery experience preferred Certification in surgical technology or operating room nursing
Other Requirements:
