Job Description

Job Overview Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant on the Ortho Specialty Unit at our M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN! This position is 32 hours every two weeks, working 8-hour evening shifts, and every other weekend. Evening shift is 3pm - 11:30pm. Unit:
The 3rd Floor Orthopedic Surgical Specialty unit at M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital is a newly built, 26-bed adult medical/surgical unit focused on total joint replacement and post-operative recovery. Staff also care for a variety of medical patients, offering broad exposure to different diagnoses and care needs. With a healthy, team-oriented work environment and strong support from leadership and education specialists, this unit is ideal for those who thrive in collaborative, fast-paced settings and are eager to grow their skills in orthopedic care.
Responsibilities:
The Nursing Assistant is responsible for assisting the professional nurse/caregiver in the delivery of patient care, transporting patient and/or equipment, setting up and maintaining patient rooms, and the reordering and stocking of supplies. The Nursing Assistant does not work autonomously but works under the direction of a professional nurse. The Nursing Assistant may be given a patient care assignment based on unit needs and the discretion of the manager/charge nurse. Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties to include: Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making. Personal grooming, bathing, toileting, Feeding, Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments/creams, Oral hygiene, Specimen collection/testing, Position/ambulating, Changing linens, Promptly answers call lights. Assists nurse in monitoring patient condition. Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, oxygen saturation. Places patient on/off monitors or equipment. Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner. Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients. Orients patient/family to environment. Assures the patient's belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge. Transports patients, equipment, specimen and supplies. Assures patients get to appointment on time. Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.
Required Qualifications:
Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross or MTN) Ontrack participants must be able to obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program. and AND one or more of the following: Successful completion of Fairview's OnTrack Nursing Assistant program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program. Or Six months of recent direct care experience in a long term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include, Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician) Or Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program Or Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position (exception: MHealth Fairview West Bank Nursing Assistants)
NOTE:
Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post hire to become active on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.
