Job Description

Night shift: 18:30- 07:00 - 0.9 FTE (3 12-hour shifts per week)
JOB SUMMARY
(overview of job): With direction of a Registered Nurse, Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) provide direct patient care and assist team members with delegated tasks/procedures that are within their scope of practice. CNAs possess thorough understanding of the position's roles/responsibilities and seek clarification when appropriate. They have the ability, with minimal oversight, to produce accurate and timely computer documentation. This position requires knowledge of printer and fax functions. This position requires demonstrated ability to multi-task and are highly motivated to perform in alignment with SPH's values.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
: Previous hospital/long term care experience, including the use of medical terminology, preferred. This position requires a person who exhibits a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, the ability to work productively under stress, and who displays a professional demeanor and is able to prioritize workloads. The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a safe environment and therapeutic milieu based on the age of the patients served. The employee must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possess the ability to communicate observed changes in patient's behavior/activity to the
RN. EDUCATION
: High school graduate, HiSET or GED equivalent preferred. Successful completion of a CNA program required. This position description may qualify for a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay. The conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire. Nurses involved in the care of orthopedic and spine patients must adhere to defined educational and competency requirements in compliance with DNV Orthopedic and Spine certification. Nurses providing care to orthopedic and spine patients must complete specialty-specific education and validate competency annually. Nurses are expected to participate in continuing education activities relevant to orthopedic and spine care, including updates on clinical guidelines, emerging technologies, and best practices. Educational areas may include, but are not limited to: Musculoskeletal system anatomy and physiology ERAS Pain management strategies Mobility and safety Prevention of complications such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), infection, and pressure injuries Glucose management Compartment syndrome
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY
: Current certification as a nursing assistant required or enrollment in the SPH CNA training program and must obtain certification at the end of the training period. Current and valid BLS certification required. SECURE Training required within 6 months of hire date, then annually updated.
Aptitudes :
Demonstrated ability to exhibit judgment in organizing time and performing repetitive tasks. Demonstrated ability to achieve cognitive, organization and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple stressors, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers, within job duties. Demonstrated ability for interpersonal communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Demonstrated ability to receive feedback and ability to adapt to a changing environment, requiring flexibility in scheduling and department assignments. Demonstrated ability to take ownership for work completed. Demonstrated ability to communicate in an effective, respectful and appropriate manner, contributing to the team environment. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with the patient care team.
