Job Description

For over forty years, St. Peter's Lutheran Church Nursery School has offered high-quality early childhood education in Central New York. It is our aim to help the whole child develop emotionally, socially, intellectually, physically and spiritually in a loving and accepting atmosphere. We are a play-based program with numerous hands-on opportunities for children to explore the world. Creative opportunities are numerous with emphasis placed on the process rather than the product. Sensory play, music, and large motor skills are daily staples of the program.
Summary:
The Nursery School Teacher Assistant will be responsible for supporting the Executive Director with teaching and related duties during the school week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the possibility for growth as program expands).
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Assist the Executive Director in creating a safe and supportive learning environment. 2. Build strong, nurturing relationships to support children's social and emotional growth. 3. Provide individual support to students as needed in the classroom and outdoors including daily routines (greeting/departing, snacks, toileting, handwashing, transitions, and health/safety practices). 4. Serve as lead teacher (with a substitute assistant) when the Executive Director cannot be present. 5. Assist the Executive Director in keeping the classroom tidy and organized. 6. Work closely with the teacher, families, and others (such as congregational staff, Nursery School Board, and volunteers). 7. Align with the energy level of an active preschool program. 8. Follow the congregation's Safe Haven policy as approved by the Council and complete the required Sexual Harassment Prevention Seminar annually.
Qualifications:
We are looking for an individual who is collaborative, reliable and who brings warmth, curiosity, and dedication to their work with young children.
A successful candidate should possess:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous preschool or early childhood classroom experience
  • Degree in education (associate's or bachelor's) welcome
  • Experience working with a team in a classroom setting desired
Pay:
