ASCENSION LUTHERAN CHURCH NURSERY ATTENDANT JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:

The Nursery Attendant is responsible for providing a safe and warm environment in the nursery and supervising children. This position can be shared between two people, working every other week (2 weeks per month) or as determined.

Leaders of Family Ministry Needed Skills and Qualifications :

Competence in making sure that the nursery is a safe and supportive place. Ability to interact positively with children and parents. Knowledge of how to care for babies, toddlers, and small children. Commitment to seeing the nursery as a vital part of the Christian nurturing ministry of the church. Must hold current CPR certification and satisfactorily complete the required background checks. While performing the duties of this job description, one must be able to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk, hear, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Will frequently need to lift and move up to 40 pounds. Must hold or be willing to get a valid first aid card. The church will pay for a class if you do not have a valid first aid card. Tasks to be

Performed:

Supervise and lovingly care for children. Open the nursery 15 minutes before service begins. (9:15 a.m.) Assure that the nursery is properly staffed until all the children are picked up, the room is cleaned, and toys are sanitized. See that the room is in order and cleaned when the nursery is closed. Notify parents in case of emergency. Make sure parents sign in when children are dropped off/sign out when leaving. A minimum of 2 Nursery caregivers will be present at all times on Sundays. Notify the Leader of Family Ministry when supplies need to be restocked. Satisfactorily complete required background checks and follow-ups. Assure Compliance with the "Policy of Ascension Lutheran Church for Making the Nursery a Safe Place for Children" and the "Safe Sanctuary" Policy. Ensure that no child is released to anyone except an authorized parent, guardian, or other authorized person. Be sure doors remain closed to keep the children safe in the nursery. Do not allow the children to leave the room unsupervised for any reason. Other tasks as assigned by the Leader of Family Ministry. Maintain

of all personal and private information acquired in the performance of this position. Normal duty hours will be 9:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (or whenever Education time ends and children are picked up) This would count as 3 hours for pay purposes. Summer hours are 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. This would count as 2 hours for pay purposes. Use the walkie-talkie to communicate with the ushers if needed.

Leader of Family Ministry Starting Wage:

$17.50/hr. Duty Hours 9:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for one service or whenever Education time ends and children are picked up. The goal is to encourage young parents to stay and attend Adult Forum. If there are no children in attendance, the extra time may be used to clean toys or perform other duties as directed. The summer schedule will be Sundays from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. (No Sunday School).
