- External UPMC Presbyterian Transplant ICU is currently interviewing for a casual Nursing Assistant/Patient Care Technician role.
Transplant ICU Transplant ICU:
12-bed critical care facility, serving as the sole ICU in the hospital and receiving a wide variety of patients. Most of our patients have received transplanted organs including kidney, liver, pancreas, intestine, islet cell, or multi-visceral transplants. We also care for patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries, surgical oncology patients undergoing complicated abdominal surgeries, and patients suffering from multi-system organ failure. Nursing Support roles are required to work rotating shifts, which include daylight, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Nursing Assistants and Patient Care Technicians will also be required to work 12-hour shifts, with a possibility of a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts. The Nursing Assistants and Patient Care Technicians provide routine patient care and support the department services in accordance with established policies and procedures. This role will be directed by nurses and/or physicians to ensure that the highest degree of quality patient care can be maintained at all times. Patient care duties may include, but are not limited to, ADLs (bathing, feeding, transporting, toileting, ambulating, turning and repositioning patients, and blood glucose), vital signs, simple dressings, EKGs, bladder scans, and all specimen collections. Job title and salary will be based upon qualifications and career ladder requirementsResponsibilities:
Performs core nursing assistant duties including ADLs (bathing, feeding, toileting, transporting, ambulating, turning/repositioning), vital signs, I&O, weights, and point-of-care testing (e.g., blood glucose). Assists with patient procedures and therapies such as simple dressings, bladder scans, 12-lead EKGs, telemetry monitor placement, specimen collection, and mini-cath/clean-catch urine collection. Applies and removes patient restraints per protocol; supportsHAC & PSI
prevention (TEDs, SCDs) and monitors safety in the workplace. Provides feedback to the RN regarding patient status and delivers instruction to patients and families under RN direction. Contributes to unit support tasks, including responding to call lights and phones, passing meal trays, transporting patients, and performing clerical duties as needed. Maintains accurate and timely documentation in the medical record and adheres to all hospital policies and procedures. Demonstrates effective communication, respect, and collaboration with all members of the healthcare team. Actively seeks feedback, takes initiative to improve knowledge and performance, and meets all required competencies. Reports equipment malfunctions promptly and ensures safe, proper use of all equipment. Promotes a positive, inclusive environment by showing accountability, enthusiasm, cultural awareness, and professionalism in all interactions.Note:

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic, or current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
