JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE

Certified Nursing Assistant (Grant Funded)

GENERAL SUMMARY

Assist students with personal care needs and/or assist in special education classrooms as needed. Work under the immediate guidance and direction of a licensed registered nurse to maintain routine clinic records, provide minor first aid care, and conduct health screenings.

Reports to:

Building School Nurse/Nurse Manager/Building Principal

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assists students, school personnel, and parents in understanding and coping with a student's disability or condition. Provide basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illness according to a detailed protocol established by the school nurse (RN) or medical advisor. Maintains current school health records and clinic logs. Updates student health information and ensures health records are maintained in a confidential manner. Assist with screening programs, take vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration rate, and blood pressure), and accurately document results as proscribed by district, state, and federal requirements. Communicate findings to supervising school health staff for direction. Escort students to and from health room and assist students with disabilities as necessary. Contact parents of students who need to be picked up from school according to established school health services protocols or as directed by the school nurse (RN). Knowledgeable of Universal Precautions Procedures when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care. Prepare, compile, maintain, and file all correspondence, reports, records, and other documents required, including accurate and confidential student health records. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, South Carolina DHEC rules, State Board of Education rules, and board policy. Complies with all District Two and campus routines and regulations. Follows district and emergency procedures. Miscellaneous Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma/GED Current Certified Nursing Assistant Certificate or equivalent certificate Job related experience within a specialized field is required

Qualifications:

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of basic first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
