Job Description

Reports To District Nurse (RN) / Campus Principal Job Summary The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) assists the school nurse in providing health services to students and staff. The CNA supports student health and safety by administering basic first aid, assisting with medical procedures, maintaining clinic records, monitoring student health conditions, and supporting students with special medical needs under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Qualifications High school diploma or GED Valid Texas CNA certification Current CPR/First Aid certification Knowledge of basic healthcare procedures and infection control Ability to maintain confidential medical records Strong communication and organizational skills Experience working with children preferred Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illnesses Assist students with daily health needs and personal care Take and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure Administer medications according to district policy and nurse direction Assist with health screenings such as vision, hearing, and scoliosis checks Monitor students with chronic medical conditions Maintain accurate clinic records and documentation Assist with feeding, mobility, toileting, and hygiene needs for students with disabilities Observe and report changes in student condition to the supervising nurse Support emergency response procedures when needed Maintain cleanliness and organization of the health clinic Communicate professionally with parents, staff, and healthcare providers Follow all district, state, and federal health regulations Attend required staff development and training sessions Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising nurse or administrator Physical Requirements Ability to lift and assist students Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations Work Environment School clinic or classroom setting Exposure to illness, bodily fluids, and medical emergencies may occur Salary and Schedule Typically follows the school district paraprofessional pay scale Usually a 10-month or school-year position
